I remember this crap when I lived in Maryland in the 80's: the Maryland State Police would do 'rolling roadblocks' to slow folks down...especially on the Capital Beltway. What you ended up with way too often was a five-mile backup (or more) and not a few fender-benders as folks who don't know what's going on up front try to jockey their way through and collect someone. After over 25 years of this, the folks in Maryland had had enough and started talking about de-funding the State Police if those rolling roadblocks didn't go away. The State Police, realizing they'd irked the entire Baltimore-Washington area, wisely let it go. So now there are speed cameras everywhere...sigh...

So, in Maryland rolling roadblocks were implemented to make drivers follow the speed limit? And ended up more dangerous than just letting the traffic flow? If so I find it interesting cuz here in Japan there’s absolutely no rolling roadblocks except when there’s construction or something.

@@wataruotani7309 There were quite a few states in the US that implemented rolling roadblocks for speed control, MD is one of the few that's left (neither my home state of PA or my current home of FL does this). It was also compounded by the fact that the Capital Beltway was also the through route for I-95 on the East Coast (signed with I-495), so you had cross-country traffic getting nailed along with the locals...which made it worse. Now throw in a few tractor trailers, oil tankers, car carriers, METRO buses...ugh.
