T-Wrecked Cocktail and X-Plus King Kong vs. Tyrannosaurus TRU Exclusive Set Review

Interesting trivia for you, Thirsty! Entire fight sequence between Kong and Rex was a test footage, shot by Marian C. Cooper (director of Kong) with miniature test puppets created by O’Brien and Delgado, using Fay Wray as a stand-in. This test was done to show executives at RKO what to expect from King Kong and persuade them finance the movie. The test was so successful that it actually appeared in the movie. That’s why King Kong itself is looking slightly different, it uses test puppet which was later partially replaced by more complex design. And T.Rex puppet was created for unreleased movie called Creation - basically a dad-movie to Kong. All other creatures (excluding Kong) were created specifically for this movie by Obie (O’Brien). So technically this is vinyl figure of Creation T.Rex :D

@@ThirstyThursdayToys Okay, so another interesting bit of trivia for you then :D That tree branch that Kong sticks into Rex mouth from movie still, same one from this set, actually is featured in one of the NECA Ultimate King Kong figures. Specifically Skull Island set. Although NECA didn’t released a T.Rex with it, but it’s certainly the same tree branch, which is funny :D

@@ThirstyThursdayToys In some capacity tree trunk welding Kong is actually in the final movie. In the sequence where Kong attacks native village he uses similar tree trunk to attack natives, it’s not exactly the same one from the promotional still, however it’s still somewhat canon. Even NECA acknowledged it 16 years after X-Plus release! :D

Not nonsense, but from time to time (responsibly) a way to chill out. Very cool figures, definitely keep an eye out for these two. Definitely agree with the atelier G armature. Speaking of someone hardly ever mentioned and given credit is Marcel Delgado who was involved with the kong films. If memory serves with the help in creating the armature of kong. Which gives me so much pride as he was from the same town as my grandfather. Cheers thirsty 🍺😎👍🏽

@@ThirstyThursdayToys Marcel Delgado actually sculpted every single creature in the movie, including Kong himself. Willis O’Brien did the armatures and designs, sometimes helped with sculpting
