I wish people would read the rules of the splits. Fearless draft is only for winter. If you want T1 to win, having an adc you can't completely counter ban by playing 1 game of fearless is a blessing. Having 2 good adcs for each split is even better.

Ah, the consequences of kpop branding. Meanwhile for anyone actually watching the games and who isn’t a total schizo, this makes some amount of sense. I mean, at least to me, I felt like guma wasn’t performing that well so far in the split. In the games I’ve tuned into I’ve seen him getting caught or being a little lackluster, standing out as a weak link when he’s usually the most reliable member of the team. While I was surprised to hear he actually got benched, it made sense. 7:20 and the fact the stans are citing worlds stats is crazy and just proves a good chunk of these people don’t even watch anything other than worlds. Seriously, it’s ridiculous that people who don’t even watch 90% of t1s games (regular season and msi) are this emotionally invested. Then again a lot of them are probably underage girls, so I guess their opinions shouldn’t be taken all that seriously anyways.

cant believe im saying this as a t1 fan but good take from dom guma is one of my fav players right now and i was really surprised when he got benched but also understood that these things happen. like t1 is an organization that knows and wants to win. and i know they will be the kind to do is correctly. this is good competition between smash and guma because at the end of the day this is a sports league where one unique spot is filled by one unique player every match. if in the end guma is benched and leaves, ill be sad but it ultimately just means guma does not fit anymore the vision of t1. i really hope that will not be the case. but i will support t1 regardless (mainly because i became a fan of t1 because of faker lol)

Have people been living under a rock, T1/SKT's bread and butter have been subbing out players and utilizing their rookie players. Even the first time SKT won Worlds is them being a sister team. Yes that's right, Faker and Squad is a sister team, they are called SKT T1 #2 before changing to T1 K. One of the most impressive runs ever is T1 K, they are the original rag tag team till DRX won Worlds.

I think it's actually a good thing lck fans care about their legacy or popular players. Look what happened to the lcs it isn't even a region anymore after we lost double lift, bjergsen, sneaky, meteos in general these types of players. I actually seen the lcs in my watch feed earlier for youtube and it had less people watching it than this clip channel did shortly after being posted. Pros in Na stopped caring about delivering content to the fans, stopped caring about being good at the game, and the teams were utterly incompetent. This back and fourth of a popular player to a potentially up in coming skilled player is a good thing. Because here in North America we don't have any popular players left, we haven't had any interesting news, and we haven't had any skill for a very long period of time.

Imo, having a bench with HQ players is great for world-class teams. If this meta doesn't suit Guma, and its hurting them, then the coaching staff would swap him out for another player being confident with the quality of players they have in reserve. Few patches down the line, and the situation might reverse, and Guma can be back in action. But it is a little sad indeed, they make world finals with him years in a row and got a second world cup just a few months ago and now to be removed from the team for performance reasons hurts

I’m a T1 fan but I’ll never understand the cult like pessimism that radiates from majority of the fan base. I am also a major Gumayusi supporter, but this change absolutely makes sense in all aspects Dom brings up. T1 isn’t saying Gumayusi isn’t even good enough to be their starter but they can’t get any practice in with the meta ADCs to see how they can adapt their drafts because of Gumayusi’s different champ pool. Why can’t everyone just take it as a positive, see if Gumayusi can improve those champions to add into a consistent champ pool just as Faker did with Azir now quite literally regarded the greatest Azir we’ve ever seen. This is nothing about bashing Gumayusi, or trying to hurt Gumayusi’s feelings the loyalty they have to him will always be there but it’s just psychotic and ill to not think if he’s not allowing them to fully explore the meta and get analysis, why not try something new while the pressure and consequences aren’t as high.

If the games are lost and meaningless this is the perfect time for Smash to get on the main roster. He gets experience with the team and if worst case scenarios happen they have someone who can play adc. Even then it’s possible this meta doesn’t favor guma or more likely the coaches saw something they wanted try with Smash that they couldn’t with Guma.

Alot of the time im actually sad to be a T1 fan, the pressure placed on the players and overall toxicity of this disgusting fanbase is a massive shame. We're more concerned about acronyms than we are about improving the team, not to mention, Guma is a phenomenal player but does have alot of constraints, his champ pool is relatively small as he usually performs best on high range low mechanical cost champions that allow him to focus on positioning, (Cait, jhin, senna) with the occasional varus, that makes it easy to target him in draft if hes having a good series. Like, its ok to have a favourite member of the team but if you are a fan of the player and NOT the team,you need to just stop talking about what the team should and shouldnt do because you just wanna see that SINGULAR player, you dont care about the outcome of the team. Like, its always something with this team, fans shitting on Doran because they wanted zeus back, now theyre shitting on Smash because they want Guma getting more playtime, like crazy thought, how about we just enjoy the games and see what we can do as a TEAM to win, even if that meant benching faker (my fav player of all time, I am highly biased towards faker) I would say go for it, cus im a T1 fan, not just a faker fan. I'm not trying to be petty, but Korean, Japanese, and Chinese culture/mindset in general dont like radical changes. Those 3 countries are very conservative in mindset, work ethics, and just in general anything they participate in. depends, when Zeus changed teams everyone turned on him and called it a betrayal, didn’t seem like it was player over org at that time. Feels more like it very much an idol group thing where fans place loyalty to the group above everything else. It was obvious that the kpop idol marketing of T1 would clash with the competitive side of the business at some point, this T1 roster of the past 4 years was an aberration in the sense that you can’t typically keep a worlds-contending roster for a long period of time while also keeping your fan favourite players and not making roster changes. I have no hate against T1 whatsoever but this offseason was just them being brought back down to the same situation other top teams have to deal with and some fans seem unable to deal with that.

Imma be honest, if 1 player gets subbed out during the game some fan is attending and they get extremely upset about it, they are going to get a huge wake up call in the real world. Shit happens, pretty much everything in life never turns out the way you think its supposed to. These people watch to many movies and shows, play to many video games and think real life is going to be like the made up worlds they consume. It isn't. Stuff like this is an extremely minor inconvenience in the grand scheme of things. Chill, its gonna be ok. If stuff like this gets your worked up, I can't imagine how you deal with things at your job or in your life. You must be a miserable person. Not flaming or or anything, just facts. Grow up.

@@darrenfleming7901 I don't blame the fans that got upset whatsoever. T1 (for survival the organization and whatnot) made the transition of a more commercial and idol image. This means that they actively promoted the players as idols and created merchandise and interactive events around them. Their commercial strategy is heavenly focus and limited club oriented mentality. They create expensive packages for people to made them feel "special" and cut above the rest. Which is something that a lot of companies do in Korea. So T1 fans, do spend a lot of money and the company gave them the power to certain extent over t1 by constantly spamming "you made t1" and giving special treatment on fan meetings according to how much money they spend. Now fans feel they are in their right to voice their concerns about how and when they spend their money and which players deserve the spot base on their preferences. But t1 as organization created this conflict.

I think comparing this situation with the guma-teddy situation is way to superficial. When teddy was on the team T1 looked horrible and they never seemed to be able to really play together as a team. So there was a need to try something. This time you have a adc that won worlds the last two years, was (together with zeus) the most consistent player of the team the last year and it has only been 2 series since worlds. So I think the public doesn’t really have enough information to judge this substitution (the only way this would make sense is if guma was really struggling in scrims/behind the scenes kn general). Don’t get me wrong: I think smash is a very talented adc that deserves to get a shot but i don‘t know if this substitution is really the best move for T1, guma and smash. I always feel like having these rosters with multiple players in a role end up going up in flames rather than really leading to improvement.

Nah bro, if Guma is underperforming and they are losing stage games/scrims, it means they aren't jelling as a team. T1 has every right to bench underperforming players just as they have done with Faker in the past as well. As much as possible, they don't want to tank their record/standings just to wait for Guma to get back into form. It has also been a gruelling 3 years for T1 players. 3 straight trips to Worlds finals is pretty mental taxing. Could be one of the reason why Guma is underperforming bc burnout is a thing. Letting Smash play a bit could also be a good opportuniy for Guma to take a break and reflect.

Honestly, Guma has been probably the most CONSISTENT adc the past several years, when it comes to worlds he's had a pretty good performance for the last 3 years.... but he's never been somebody that output a lot of damage. He's a laid-back anchor that lets the team do whatever they wanted. I wonder if the change from Zeus to Doran has made T1 question the need for a more aggressive ADC. Because as consistent as Doran is... his ability to pump out damage is a far-cry from Zeus. Just food for thought. I'd like to see Smash play a little more to gauge just how consistent he is at his play-style... and if results follow then why now just run with them both. This might not be a 100% accurate statement but it looks like Smash likes to play the champions that Guma isn't quite as good at.. e.g. Kai'sa, Ezreal.

Mmm, very interesting the way culture shapes around supporting players vs supporting teams. As a soccer fan players change, you support the team. Not the player. This wouldn't be that much of a controversy in a sport with a trade or loan system of some kind where having good players on your roster even if they don't start games for you is somehow beneficial because you can either trade them for something like draft picks, prospects in the minor league or a player at a more needed position or you can send them on loan for an amount of cash that you can then use on player salaries for the roster or to otherwise improve your situation. as it stands with the odd system League has, there is no real benefit to this which could easily land you in a dispute if you end up with a disgruntled star player (not what's happening here at all, the optics are just very bad) because other than releasing him from his contract and allowing him to be a free agent, there isn't a ton you're allowed to do which is very odd if you ask me. I'm all for players getting to pick teams by themselves, but you could just bake a default no-trade clause into the competitive ruleset and then players would probably still agree to be traded in a situation like this IF THEY ARE UNHAPPY. meaning in this situation we could point to any given day that Guma remains on their roster as a sign that he is actively choosing to be there, even if he is not starting games. if he were unhappy, there'd be no reason for T1 to want to keep him and they'd just trade him for some cash or a sub for top lane to help with Doran's champion pool or anything like that, where they get something out of it and he gets to actually play the game. again, I don't think that's what's going on, it's just a very unique situation that other sports don't really face.
