The whole sequence is noting short but masterpiece. The build-up. The metaphorical chair falling from the rooftop. The catch. And then reality kicks in, with all the vomit, choking and swearing. When you really think about it its amazing that Danny Boyle was able to make Renton so likable. He is single handedly responsible for alot of the bad things that happened to his friends.

I see this sequel as Mark going back and facing his demons, with Sickboy and Spud doing the same. Even Begbie has a scene where he reconciles with his son and tells him how proud he is of him. "The old wino was my father...this old fool is yours."

the only thing he did was stealing their money, which means he steals every one 4000. i always found it funny how they think such a rather small amount of money could have changed their lives forever. that only would have been enough for some months for food and then be gone. they can blame him for the steal, but not for ruining their lives. begbie and sickboy would have failed anyway

I disagree somewhat. Begbie choose to go nuts at the end and attack the police (TS1) with a knife, but he was already on the run for armed robbery which had nowt to do with mark. Sickboy actually said in the pub (where begbie cut spuds hand in TS1) he would have done it when he returned from the bathroom. There was a moment of truth in what he said "Why not, I know I would have". Don't forget, rentboy was doing well in London and had already made the escape from Scotland and his troublesome friends, it was Begbie who invaded his life and dragged him back up North. They also stole from his apartment, read his bank statements and TV. They were leaches. So in a way, Renton was some what justified because as long as he was around his friends, his life was going nowhere. It was a dirty thing to do though. As for Spud, well, spud was a nice kid who never had any direction and mark left him money. To which spud resented him for as he was a junky, but if mark had not left anything, I make a million dollar bet spud would have become what he was and would have been angry cos of the money. Would have said that money could have changed his life for the better. Its a very complex situation. Ultimately they were all wasters, but Renton was the one who showed the initiative to change his life twice in that film WITHOUT the need or company of his friends. Who cares, you can read it anyway you want, we can all agree its an amazing little franchise we're blessed to have. P.S Don't forget, mark was clean in London, it was his friends who turned him back into a Junkie too and he never asked for them back in his life. They invaded his when he did it the right way.

What a way to turn the ending of the first film on its head. Spud getting his share of the money was framed as a good thing 20 years ago, but when you really think about it, giving drug addicts loads of money is one of the worst things you can do to them.

Very idealistic but unfortunately the reality of addiction to heroine is much darker. Have you seen the first one? If someone is on heroine, you won't be the first person who has tried to "save" them and so what makes you think that you will succeed where others have failed? Don't get me wrong, that's no reason not to try, but sometimes it is literally an impossible task.

You don’t have to be a heroin addict to feel this way, and all the hugs and holidays in the world won’t quieten the daily voice that tells you the world would be a better place if you weren’t in it. Still, if there’s even the slightest chance it might help someone, then you might as well try.

I tried looking up the damn scene but ironically I can't find any versions that don't have music playing or glamorizing the movie I swear the more I hear about companies editing movies because it was "too intense" the more obvious it's just because they don't want to be held responsible for showing how to do it. I'm not proud about saying this but I've seen plenty of cases of botched attempts so it's not like they're doing us any favors by not showing us how to do it right. Personally I like this scene because you don't just fall asleep. Your body has reflexes, you have to fight to go in peace either that or knock yourself out.

I thought T2 had its issues, but I really liked this whole sequence. Spud imagining himself falling off the top of the building was visually striking. It's also the only instance of "magic realism" I can think of in the entire movie, which is weird considering the first film was big on that sort of thing (IE, Renton going down the toilet, Renton sinking into the carpet after ODing, etc). I would have appreciated more of the original's fantastical edge even if I still enjoyed the sequel on the whole.

Hasn’t seen spud in 20 years. Dunno if he’s opening a door to a friend or enemy. He doesn’t know who spud is now……………… But one look at him in distress and without a seconds hesitation Renton (Jedi morality and reflexes) breaks through the door and saves his mate………. Ripping open the bag getting sick all over him. Renton doesn’t care, doesn’t slow down. Doesn’t treat spud like as little as 24 hours have passed, never mind 20 years. Once a mate, always a mate. Every suicidal one of us no matter how hopeless and worthless we might feel. the idea that at the moment of truth an old but close friend randomly appears after 20 Years kicks in your door and saves your life……. Imagine deep down that what the suicidal guy is praying for, somebody to stop him and convince him he’s not worthless, he doesn’t make the world ugly (not like Simon or begbie) Then that mate takes you on a run (admittedly I’d rather have does that run up that hill) But Renton does it to tell spud, you’ll always be an addict! So be addicted to something else! Which as an addict myself I found as really exciting advice, as if it’s the first advice I heard that actually sound like it could work. And Spud became a writer as his addiction, and the oboe suggest he’s pretty good at it, maybe even good enough to build himself a new life. Since spud is the avatar for Irvine Welsh in this movies

Igor Bojanic yes you can. I was a junkie for years and always spiked the same spot on my right forearm. I just got lucky with my veins. I knew plenty who had to shoot into their groin like Swanney. Some people can go in the same vein for years without a problem. Other people’s veins collapse in no time. It all depends.

This scene is the scene that justifies the creation of this movie, and is the more than good enough reason too look past the movies flaws so you can understand what it's trying to say. The ending of the first movie gave a false impression that things were on the up, and maybe they were for Renton, and Sick Boy was gonna be okay. Begbie was going to jail but he deserved it 100%. But Spud finding that 4k in his locker might've seemed like a good thing for a character that we all cared for, but this scene finally tells the audience that Spud wasn't gonna be okay, and that's something that isn't necessarily obvious for someone who hasn't been a smack head themselves as 4k was an amount I could've easily blown in 6 weeks or less if I had it laying around when I was smoking heroin. And I was only smoking, Spuds character was shooting up
@vksasdgaming9472

Of course how Spud would have just blown that money on smack is true, but he in a sense did not deserve to be betrayed like that and Renton knew it.
