Planning and building the city's concentric road layout and personal advice on making road layouts. This is part 4 of the second season of my unmodded Cities: Skylines let's play series - Design and Manage: “Road Layout Plan & Build - Concentric Grid".
Cities: Skylines is a city-building game developed by Colossal Order and published by Paradox Interactive.

About this series: bit.ly/t4r-DM2
'Design and Manage' is a Cities: Skylines let's play series that focuses on what are for me two core aspects of the game: Design (eye candy, aesthetically pleasing layouts, road systems and districts) and Management (earning a positive income while providing all necessary services to maintain a functional city and a healthy traffic flow).
This series is played without mods.
Map: Murky Coast (Campus DLC).
Main DLCs installed: After Dark, Snowfall, Natural Disasters, Mass Transit, Green Cities, Parklife, Industries, Campus, Sunset Harbor.

As much as i miss vindsvept, i actually like the new timelapses. Maybe you can alternate the two: use voiceover when there is something to explain (like in this case), and music when you are just decorating or something that doesn't need explaination. Great series btw, i'm always hungry for the new episode :D

This is an amazing episode from you, here! I forgot just how much I had enjoyed this series of yours. Your unmodded city still looks more well-planned and complex than my city with 100 mods. I cannot imagine brute forcing all of the geometry here without mods, (or deleting all of the trees with just the bulldoze tool!), so you have my respect for that.

I'm fairly new to this game and I am extremely rare in YT comments but I had to give you a huge thank you and show my respect for these videos you make! I finally understand what needs to be done in this game and you have showed us an amazing and artistic way to do it. Cudos to your meticulous designing. I've just spent several hours watching and I'm amazed. Gonna play this game much more after these videos of yours :)

I can't believe no one has suggested replacing the tunnel with a sunken avenue! Far more attractive and realistic than an elevated highway. This would satisfy your desire to limit intersections, noise pollution, and watch traffic flow. Just my two cents, I am sure whatever you come up with will blow my mind. It's good to have you back, Target. You are the GOAT! Keep up the good work :) Edit: Loved the time-lapse.

I watched almost all of design&manage season 1. That was awesome technique without mod, every layout in that map looks great, traffic is perfect,. T4rget is the best unmodded cities skylines player. Really hope that all layout such as intersection, industry layout, etc can be uploaded as asset, separately from the full map so that can be applied in another map. Thanks, greeting from Indonesia

Not necessarily so. Have a look at Brussels, which has main traffic arteries running through tunnels that then emerge into multiple lane one-way alleys with the occasional intersection. Haven’t built anything like that, but driving there was interesting to say the least

Great episode, lots of inspiration to draw from! In regards to the tunnel - maybe potentially make it a raised avenue above the neighborhood going into the bridge instead so that it's visible but still good for traffic?

Really liked the slower time lapse with commentary. This series is going places FAST! I thought the low desity residential area layout looked a littled crammed, but I am pretty sure as you zone you will modify with a few green spaces. In the avenue leading to the bridge being underground, I will say; that's not like you @T4rget, but if it is something consistently used throughout New Tadema then I am all for it. Being open minded helps break barriers and can expand design and management.

You did a much better of explaining and utilizing time lapse than you did last year. This video / series proves that you are among the best youtubers regarding Cities Skylines. Your content is much more useful and actually more entertaining for those who may not have the game. Your commentary somewhat serious and laid back and you place bits of humor in your commentary at just the right time. The technical quality of the video sound is good and you avoid erratic movements of the screen. I have been actually binging on your videos and I plan to utilize many of the techniques I've learned here. Your use of arteries are one of the better explanations.

Here in Brazil, some of high traffic avenues was converted in tunnels to increase the land value. Rio de Janeiro changed an overpass to a underground tunnel in downtown area. If you want to make this avenue a straight connection to the other side of the river, you can keep the tunnel.

I really liked your new time-lapse style. It flowed very nicely. I like the tunnel but I think if you back up the tunnel opening up to the road just behind it that will give you more room to begin building the bridge. Nice work with the concentric grid, I think it will develop very nicely.

You are the Le Corbusier of Cities Skylines. It will be interesting to see how your Ville Radieuse actually functions. I foresee quite a few traffic issues. They're not called bottlenecks for nothing. If you funnel all the traffic into a few arterial roads, just like fluid in the neck of a bottle, there'll be trouble.
@8roomsofelixir
@8roomsofelixir 4 жыл бұрын
The circular layout is very well thought and following the existing patterns. I think it's very similar to a ring road outside the old town in the European cities; you may want to build train stations, unique buildings, and parks along the ring avenue, to create a centerpiece of your city.

I love your videos. Very inspiring and satisfying. It shows this game can be played very well even without the mods. I don’t know if you are familiar with Workers and Resorces yet. A very different kind of game in deed, but I really wish that the pathway function from that game could be implemented in Cities Skylines. Every time you connect a pathway to a road, it creates a node with a zebra crossing. That makes it possible to create a very efficient path system without cheesing with different types of roads to make a crossing. Except from that, Cities Skylines has much more finesse and perfection. Probably intentionally. Keep up the good work! And always stay safe there.

About the tunnel, my opinion is that it depends on your designing idea of that peninsula. If it's full of high-end housings, a tunnel maybe better (or even move the road elsewhere), for the rich guys probably don't want a major thoroughfare (even a tunnel) in their backyards. If it's a normal mix-use area then a bridge is fine.

Great layout! I have some thoughts about it tho. I think the coastal road is very important for a coastal city, so I suggest defining a strong coastal road that would end the "blooming flower". Also, the avenue that bridges in the left corner of the city should be visible, and the connecting roads spare so it would no cause traffic problems. Looking forward to this series!

I think the tunnel on the peninsula could be elevated instead. It would be more realistic to elevate a road that leads to a bridge, and you can see all the traffic. You might even be able to run another avenue underneath the elevated one at ground level to service the peninsula itself.

you could keep the tunnel and have the tunnel go to the other side of the water (don't need connections because it's low density anyway) - or - you could bring the tunnel above ground x2 and make it an elevated road which turns into a bridge finally at the waterfront.

Absolutely love your CS cities but the tunnel approach is a little more unrealistic than several traffic lights for a suburban neighborhood 😜 Here in Denver, Colorado, many major avenues have small, very low traffic, residential streets intersecting with no traffic light but stop signs instead, of course, its still normal to have a traffic light every couple blocks for slighter busier ‘collecting’ residential streets
