DIY Installation of the G Force Upgrade kit for the World Class T5 transmission in our Fox Body Mustang road racing car.
As we get our 1981 Fox Body Mustang read for the 2022 race season, we upgrade our existing World Class T5 transmission with a new set of 1-4 gears from G Force Racing.

@@VelocityVideo looking forward to it! How does the rebuilt transmission do? Building a ‘66 F100 with a 2.0 Ford Racing Crate engine with Control pack & will be going to RWD with a manual. The new TKX is about 4500 with bell etc less clutch/flywheel. Looking for cheaper alternatives

@@randysrestoration exact same box as in the video. Gforce T5 road race. From 2012. Its currently a fresh build. 0 miles. 2.42 and .59 gears. With 3.73 speedo gear.

thinking about putting a t5 behind a mild 400sbc into my 1987 trans am... how much power would you say the t5 G-force upgrade would handle HP & TQ wise??

From my own limited experience racing this trans, it didn't hold up to our 393 stroker. I'm estimating it makes 550hp and somewhere between 475-525tq. We blew out third gear after about 4 track days.

@@VelocityVideo Thank you for this. I was going to use a T5Z gear set in a G-Force case in a 300hp, 3,400lb car for autocross, travel, and track days. Might just go with the TKX now.

@@possiblycrazy442 They didn't use the main shaft from gforce, only used the gears. The gears are rated for 400ftlbs but with the shaft is 600. See where all the gears are pressed off & pressed back on to the stock main shaft?. Gforce main shaft is 9310 harden steel. The stock t5 shaft is flimsy twisting under the load casing the gears to break off. This is the argument on Jegs, Summit, & many Mustang communities. I have a 306 ford 496hp with the Gforce gears. Main shaft & gears. Most enthusiasts don't know about the shaft, I overlooked it as well then went back to buy it. This was their 1st build they couldn't have known. But the gears are good for 400ftlb without the shaft. Normal t5 about 325 ( worldclass)

wait, so let me get this straight... I can keep the transmission case and some of the retainers and all I have to do is get a kit like that from G-Force and I can push 500hp out of it? No way... I don't believe it. :0 Is that true man?

I'm 19 and i agree lol, i was taught by the old generation mechanics, gloves take away the feel and its harder to work with! Sometimes it's hard to even tell what you're grabbing on to.

The gear teeth are also more straight cut on the new set rather than angle like the stock gear set, that adds strength too! Are they pretty quite?

Yes, good point. It is noticeably louder than stock

Just here to straighten up a common misconception. Straight cut gears are actually weaker, however, they also generate less heat which is why they’re commonly used in high performance applications. Helical cut gears on the other hand are stronger, but generate more heat which is why they’re generally used on passenger and industrial vehicles. The reason for this is straight cut gears have less surface area in contact at any given time with another gear meaning less friction, but also less material undergoing a specified load. Helical cut gears are capable of having much more surface area in contact at any given time with another gear which increases friction, but also means more material to handle a specified load.

Good question. It lasted about 4 track days before 3rd gear went out on it. (Our stroker was putting out 550-600hp) rather than our original guess of 500. Since then, I downgraded to a mild 306cid with a TKX. Working great.

Depending on the year, the main case could be different. The mainshaft and tail housing are pretty much always different. The GM mainshafts usually have a 27 spline count, so Ford OD driven gears will not fit on them. Input shafts are also different, as are shifter bases.
