the focus is mainly on uefn, lego, rocket racing, creator creative maps etc. most the creativeness and effort went into those, leaving br's map and story creation rushed the past 2 chapters, imo. since chapter 3, the map and story's been dead cause they've been working on the other modes instead. they've turned fortnite into a creator game, they only listen to creators. community has no say anymore

I appreciate Donald's genuine enthusiasm for the game. Hopefully, the executives at Epic will eventually come to the realization that their efforts to improve the game aren't all that wonderful. It's unfortunate to see the game devolve into a metaverse-style game, which I'm sure neither Donald nor any of us really desired, but the events are what really made this game so amazing. The plot, gameplay, cartoonish graphics, and bright UI were all excellent.

I came in to fortnite around season 5 of OG fortnite. I remember the excitement of finding that purple cube tucked off somewhere and how when i attacked it out of curiosity it tried to kill me! I remember looking for videos and only seeing theories about what this cube was and its purpose. the community was so patient they were so interconnected not with just each other but also the game itself. The story really did make fortnite DIFFERENT from other battle royales. Not the goofy style or emotes. Not the wacky guns. All of those things are typical to any battle royale. What really set fortnite aside from its competition was how it took that basic gameplay loop and added an actual plot line to it. Each season felt connected to the next and made me look forward to each battle pass and story that would unfold. I dont know when it happened but i noticed somewhere in the last chapter that the game started to feel...... content with where it was. And that's when i found myself not having as much fun as i usually did. Please epic, dont give up on the plot of fortnite. It can be done. its been done before. it just takes time and actual effort. not outsourcing. The multiverse is an infinite place.

Have to imagine. Epic has a track record of making amazing games, then just kind of bail on it. The original Unreal, Unreal Tournament and Gears Of War. All good games, but they just kind of stopped caring for them. Also I'm sure Cliffy B is another reason they're not around. Tencent owns 40% of Epic, which caused Cliffy and others to leave. Oh how the good old days would come back.

The Big Bang event was so cool but the result of it was the thing that made me hate it. We went through quests and stories and the lore just.. ended? We never knew what we were supposed to retrieve for slone, we never got any lore regarding the nothing, we don’t know what happened to amie, we never heard any mention of the seven, and we never got a good conclusion to the Donald mustard storylines and instead, all we got was “Yup. They should understand that storylines and live events were something that made fortnite stand out from other games. They don't understand that forcefully inducing the metaverse into the game only to make some new mini games and collabs while silently killing the storyline might destroy the game's meaning completely. I mean the community is not dumb, they will point out what's wrong and feeling off in the game and eventually leave it for good no matter how much the devs try to convince them. If they want to keep their magic going on for a longer time, they should spend a lot of their time on the most important thing in the game, which is the storyline.

Great summary. I've been playing since OG Season 4 and have enjoyed the storylines and live reveals, but I started losing interest at the tail end of Chapter 3 and really don't play it much anymore since starting Chapter 4. I got back into Minecraft and now enjoy playing open world games moreso than BR. Hoping they will eventually tie the storyline back but I don't see it happening. 🤷

To be honest I always thought Donald was the one slowly killing the game from the beginning when he first started the storyline with all the changes and collabs he kept doing but after hearing about his retirement from being a world wide creative director and seeing nothing exciting happening anymore made me wish that he would come back some how and finish what he stopped on that made him decide to retire in the first place. With the multiverse idea theres still the opportunity for the seven to return. Theres so many amazing plot points that given the time and energy could be tied together to bring back that story line. This current map is so... realistic? It's lost the cartoonish fantasy element. I hope that with a return to OG we can get back to the story. I'd love to see all of our favourites on the map at once. Jonesy, The Foundation, Midas, Kado Thorne, The Ageless, Sloane, the rest of the seven, the IO, even the Herald.... you'd think with us having the underworld the souls of everybody could return. I remember hopping onto Fortnite and enjoy the map with good and big mid-season changes, one that really changed teh way u used to play the battle royale mode, my Main attraction were the LTM’s but now its just repetitive, no mid-season changes, no ltm’s (the floor is lava tho ), no storyline and lore, no live events. I was so hyped for Big Bang but all it turned out was an advertisement video. I have played lego Fortnite and racing just once or twice and festival never in my life. how i would have taken the story: S4: the meteor lands, and once it hatches there’s a secret challenge to follow footsteps left by the [???] to a location. This would reveal the visitors helmet and a board with the rocket plans on. i hope fortnite does go back to its storyline. it seems so interesting. i barely played in chapter 4 season 7 and 9 but chapter 5 season one omg it was so amazing.. i notice that it’s kinda like a completely different story than before tho. idk 🤷‍♀️

As someone who’s played fortnite since it’s beginning, I’m definitely one of the few that would say I like what they’re doing, one of the biggest things for me was how boring it was playing either save the world, or battle royale and how they felt repetitive no matter what they added, I stopped when they introduced those big ass mechs and started back up only a month ago. I love the fact there’s more variety, games where I can chill and play random stuff like being a lumberjack, a Lego person, or even playing a guitar hero esque game (which I enjoyed when I was a kid). Again my opinion is my own, and understand people miss the story, and the “nostalgia” of old fortnite, which I do aswell, But I believe the game has a lot of stuff you can do. And since nothing is basically pay walled (besides cosmetics and admittedly the constantly rolling songs) like Roblox and minecraft online servers have become. It’s kind of refreshing.

After the collision event is when it went downhill. I really don’t understand what they’re doing. They brought in all these voice actors back in 2021-2022. After that we’ve had events but no once speaks😐

yeah same here, i had always had to watch the events live while at school and what not and the one event i could've gotten to play, the agency event, i was too late trying to log in and was stuck in queue so i loved getting to do Fracture but to have it be basically nothing more then a UEFN test and advertisement it was a bit disappointing... then Big Bang came out and was a rehash of an old event plus a trailer and that made things even worse

This is an amazing video. I’m a Fortnite fan but I’ll admit I never bothered with the storyline. I understand why I wasn’t drawn in now though - I started playing during Chapter 3 and missed the most interesting stories! Even though I don’t tend to get drawn into complex story games, I absolutely miss that aspect of the game anyway. I even hoped the Lego game would have a story! lol. Anyway, well done! It feels chaotic, with a less than stellar map and characters. It’s all random. I barely play it anymore because it feels like the uniqueness of characters were compromised and stories abandoned. Now you randomly charge around on the map. (Although I have to say, I really loved the jungle & raptors.)

After all this time like all the build up they made it just disappeared In a flash. We all know that it was better when Fortnite was good and everything back in 2018 with so much stuff going on but now in 2024 Fortnite Is just out of its time period for the lack of the story line and much more. Fortnite was a good game for its time but it just doesn’t feel right the game is turning 7 YEARS OLD! Which is crazy to me all the stuff that happens feels like yesterday hopping on with the boys on a snow day in 2018,during the pandemic and more.Maybe Tommy is right though we just have to give it some time but it feels like it’s been to long. The events in this game were literally what made the story of it, just the story too like the buildup to the unvaulting event even though that was kinda a little bit random was one of the coolest events I ever experienced, even collision then even though it was rushed was so good that they really could have ended everything there and I don't think the reaction to switching would be as bad you just can't drop stuff like that though like no saying 'we're moving resources so events may be delayed' something like that could have worked to soften it a little bit but the hand event gave me hope that fortnite will slowly return to making the classic live events they were known for because honestly like I came back to Fortnite for this it's really something to have these once in a lifetime events I miss them

there were audio logs for the og season that partially explained the lead up to the rocket, i didnt find all of them i think but it did make a bit of sense. from what i remembered, slone wanted to reset universe so she could take control again, and jonesy was basically like i wont let you, and went to reset the universe in a different way. at least im pretty sure thats how it went

Something that I DO think is worth mentioning is how donald had a plan for wilds and mega to be part of chapter 3, but it seems like after Vibin’ the corporate greed caused executives to demand yearly chapters, and then in chapter 4, everything was shoehorned in between the planned path of oathbound to last resort. It was all completely rushed. That is what happens when you let corporate control a story.

I have always enjoyed the lore aspect of Fortnite because it added a different element and an escape from winning/losing if I required....not to mention the XP! I watched content creators like you Tommy who covered the story because, even though I did the challenges, I was too lazy (or scared I'd get picked off!) to read/listen to the commentary! I'm not surprised it's become broken to a degree because I imagine telling a story for 6 years is very difficult especially trying to keep it fluid....despite the hap hazard feel of the current lore I appreciate the fact Epic is still having a crack and with that providing updates and content along the way..... I game to have fun and escape, the battle royal mode satisfies my shooter needs without the frustration of die/respawn/rinse/repeat and no one does it better than Epic! (whether the story makes much sense or not!)

But still you're free to play when ever you like and I'd also like if they restarted all together. I think even you can agree that the only reason people would recognize fortnite is because of the name. Some of the changes have been amazing like sprinting and running but I think you can agree that a large number of them like the art style change and overall skin style changes haven't necessarily been good.

What takes a very good game from great game status to legendary status or even above that is a good story along with A great way of portraying it even people that don’t care about the story. Feel the story with the weapons they use the enemies they face and the surroundings that is why a great story and every game is important because without it, it’s just another game, especially when it comes to FPS games, this game went from 11 to 9 maybe an 8 ; still fun to play, but without that epic story in the background or even in the foreground, you just don’t feel right and that’s actually what made me complain the game when my son started playing. It was the storyline because I always dabbled with it, but I never took it seriously was just a game to go once or twice a week play have fun for an hour or two then stop playing but when the seven introduced, I was hooked now they’re gone and I haven’t played as much

Been playing since s7, and while i will miss the storyline, especialy the events. (My fav was c2s8 flipping the island was EPIC) but i think fortnite OG was a sendoff to the old story (incomplete as it was) it was getting REALLY complicated. I think they are just hitting a hard reset. Honestly so far i have enjoyed c5s2 story with figuring out why zeus wants to destroy fortnite
