I have had a suprapubic catheter for 2 years, and it's been life-changing. Not one UTI since I got the SPC.

I am a male t6. While I don't have the UTI's I do suffer severe spasticity which can make transfers almost impossible. Hang in there! I believe there will be some way for us to gain some functional recovery soon!

This would be difficult as a young woman! This is good information for anyone, but I bet a young lady would feel so much better knowing, there are ways, don't give up,researching and trying things others have...and time, everything takes longer than you want it too,but so worth it. Xoxo

There are catheters that are totally sanitary including the lubricant. So it limits the germs that can come into contact with it prior to insertion. With that many UTI’s you definitely qualify foot the most advanced catheters on the market.

Luckily mine do come that way already, but I haven’t checked out to see if there’s any that specialize in preventing UTIs. Definitely something I need to get on top of, thank you!

Just saw this today. Good video, really like Fatima as well. I used to get a lot of UTIs as well. Not sure if this will help or if you still need it or not (most is obvious and I’m sure you already do). Cleanliness, obviously, wash hands before and use hand sanitizer before breaking into the catheter, wipe urethra area off really good before and after and keep clean down there in general. I take D Mannose a couple times a day as well as a cranberry supplement (make sure it’s a high quality one). Another thing I started doing is to “overdose” on vitamin C (I take about 4000 mg daily), your body will pee out what it doesn’t need and I read that bad bacteria and E. coli latch on to the vitamin C and get carried out with it. I guess it also raises the acidity of your urine and that kills a lot of the bacteria. Also LOTS of water, I drink more than a gallon a day. Not necessarily medically proven (although my urologist recommended the D Mannose) just stuff I read when I researched stuff on my own and it actually helps me. Might be worth a try. Anyway, good luck with everything.

it's actually completely normal to have accidents at first because your body isn't used to the schedule of your bowel program. once your body adjusts to the schedule, you typically can train it to only go when you want it to for the most part. also, it's intermittent catheterization, not intermediate!

Hey hun, there's no link for the lady you were talking about. And if you are still having utis have you considered having surgery to have them make an illeal conduit? Probably spelled wrong. Ask your urologist about it. I had utis all the time too and this has saved me. My doctor gave it a nickname of a Indiana pouch.

I am a male, had an accident at work last year. I have a Suprapubic catheter now it's finally settling down I'm mortified 😢. I'm also having opening laxatives and suppositories to go the toilet. I'm waiting for the NHS for tests the bowels are just about starting. I have no feeling's regarding the toilet are you the same. Sorry for asking personal questions. Not getting answers from the doctors. I have other issues as well. But I'm reserved in some things. Sorry to ask 😢 thanks 👍.
