The non-meta games are some of the best that you cast, T90. Be it something like this with incredibly skilled players, or the low ELO series, non-meta means you never know what you're going to get out of a match. The highs and lows, comebacks and potential for alternative strats is incredibly interesting to watch.

Non-Meta high level play is pretty much always entertain more. Good players playing off Meta, be it Magic the Gathering, DOTA, League, Smite, AOE it's awesome. I have a bunch of off Meta high level event wins in MTG. I used to have crowds watching my kooky, yet highly competitive decks mopping up unprepared fields :) hell I missed qualifing for USA Nationals by 1 fucking game not match during the Caw Blade Era of Type 2 with a Caw Blade deck running little jace and a few other cheaper options to bigger spells and a couple aggressive creatures to get under the Meta. Also mained Sona mid in season 4 in league to low low diamond lol

Cyclops had the perfect civ to counter this too, without the house to hide villagers in, he would have lost at least two times more villagers during that first attack when the archers came out. It wouldn't have been even close.

I drew/won using guerilla tactics once, on a huge map. My opponent had focused their techs on elephants, and I focused on knights. I saw their army attacking another player, and I knew my opponent was about to crush me, so I spread villagers out all over the map. All of the most remote spots I could find. I used market to buy stone and TC boomed everywhere. I built 5-6 TCs in the space of a couple minutes. Two got found out after maybe 10 mins, but they were closer to my original spot. The remaining 3 all reboomed at once. I had one focus on stables, the second on castles, and the third purely eco. If one got found out, I just focus on the other two. I needed castles because I needed a way to get through walls and deal with other castles. I tried my best to time knights and hussars with trebs so that they all attacked at once, and I specifically attacked in places that wouldn't give away where I was. When his army inevitably showed up, I just sent my cavalry elsewhere. When he found one of my TCs, I reboomed again back in my old base (that still had some walls, a few houses and mining camps), for more eco. In the end, I probably had like 60 farms scattered all over the map, and 12+ stables. Some spots were just a mill and a few farms. If he destroyed one spot, I rebuilt in another. I completely ran out of gold, so I spammed hussars, and relied on market for trebs. When I got to his base, the trebs handled the castles, and the hussars just stormed through and harrassed villagers. I was slowly wittling him away and ultimately we agreed on a draw. It was 3 hours in at this point.

I believe the hero villager is one from Max during a competitive game (can't remember what tournament/map). She sneaked into enemy territory, survived 2 wolves attack, built military buildings and it steamrolled from there. Max and team won the game.

T90, please have more Low Elo Legends, and more games with Villese, because I think we should all encourage him to not give up playing Huns! The Huns are capable of some sneaky tricks, and it could serve him well. Every time you had him in a video and you said "Well, Villese isn't playing as Huns..." I was thinking "Go for what you know, Villy man... Go for What You Know". Especially if it's a qualifier round for a tourney. Villese has So much potential. Also, I am trying to friend Fatslob, but he hasn't answered yet. Oh yeah, before I forget, you could sell T-Shirts with the Pointy Bois on them, and donate part of the money to some kind of Books for underprivileged kids program or something. Anyway, I will leave you alone... I'm a pest lol.

Sneaky archery range is so good in my elo range 1100-1400. This happened in last patch, where my friend would play Ethiopians and make a sneaky archer range for like 8 games and won 7 of them. I agree with the comment, that in pro elo, that strat would rarely work, but in elo 1100, nobody expects it and even fewer know how to counter it.

Hey T-we...90! That overlay of techs each player has researched is super helpful for watching along. However, I would recommend that it'd be great if mining techs as well as thumb ring, husbandry, and even parthian tactics could be displayed as well. Husbandry could be a second shaded region under the bloodlines horse saddle. Thumb ring could be a second region under ballistics, or thumb ring and parthian could be under their own icon. Just some thoughts, thanks!

Those two gold piles to the right of Cyclops base look like they're just far enough apart to fit a town center between them, but Cyclops wasn't able to build there for awhile because of the raiding and could only afford a mining camp instead of a TC.

Howdy T90 :). Love aoe 2, but love stronghold as well. Did you manage to get archers on towers in stronghold yet? ;p Place 1 piece of wall attached to your tower, and then place stairs attached to that piece of wall. Hope we might see some stronghold again. Cheers!
