I'm definitely low ELO, but i started playing this when it came out when I was 8. I definitely did the forward gold thing because I figured I'd take as many of the "shared resources" before my opponent therefore I'd have more. This was at a difficulty where you don't really get attacked in feudal or dark.

Honestly, knowing less about a game and only playing with other "bad" players is often a lot more fun. Knowing a meta can be extremely tiring.

you can play and not care about meta but ranked discourages that a lot. ranked modes sort players by skill but that is not always a good sorting and especially fails in team games. if you want to tryhard one day and slack the next day there's always an adjustment period where you win/lose a bunch of lopsided games in a row until you can finally start playing the way you want. in a long game like aoe this basically makes it impossible and is the main reason why i never play strategy ranked.

What you’re talking about at the start over the video is spot on. I feel all this information about games has in some way ruined games. When warzone first came out it was awesome everyone was just working things out for themselves and it was fun. Now everyone is so fast to find the meta and it’s ruined the game in my opinion

Players will optimize the fun out of games if you let them. It's really apparent in big multiplayer games, but even in couch co-op you'll immediately notice if it's someone's second play through

Respect to T90, he doesn't preach. People love to preach how a game is supposed to play and what they can't do. It's a game, All people don't play to compete, the main purpose is entertainment.

especially considering the fact that T90 plays at a far higher level than the vast majority of his viewership - it'd be very easy to leverage his mechanical skill on top of his game knowledge to go soapbox mode, but dude is as humble and down-to-earth as they come.

Red going AFK isn't a waste of blues time. Blue spent 30 minutes building up this attack, if red went GG he wouldn't get the fun of breaking his simcity. Most games you aren't hurassing or getting hurassed. There's one decisive battle and then the win's decided. A minute or two of combat for a 30 minute buildup? You experience your base being killed so many times, it's frustrating when the opfor quits before you get to grind up theirs... just when the combat begins!

In German we have 2 words for cheep "billig" witsh means of less quality but also gets used for pricses form time 2 time and "günstig" witsh means "it costs little" so reds name means "of lesser quality, more expeniv"

It used to be the case in classic AoE2 too! I still fondly remember building chokepoints against the ai and watching the blob of skeletons on the ground expand. Since Microsoft's primary goal is milking the game for profits, I Guess they're trying their best to not trigger potential buyers or incite local age restriction commissions to rate it too violent for younger age groups. Pretty sąd, if you ask me. I feel like trying to make war games all flowers and rainbows can be more desensitising than showing things for what they are

I enjoy jumping on and spectating random maps, especially around maps in new pools I haven't played before - But its so common for people to get angry in game to others and accuse them of spectator cheating, which sometimes leads to early gg's :(

Red just didn't want to build army until he was already being attacked, and then he just trickled a couple units in. He always sat at 1/4th the army of blue at best. I loved watching blue's game plan, and I liked the out-of-the-box thinking from red, but it was really painful and frustrating to watch red throw their army into the garbage over and over. Skirms running into melee to try to throw spears at trebs, rams trickling in against towers that are guarded by military... Red has good eco, and I really liked them trying to build forward siege workshops or the northern TC. Honestly, if they can just figure out how to make and use army, they'd jump another 500 elo at least.

T90 the counter-argument to the losing vills thing is more so. I am less likely to lose the vills forward earlier when there is not a lot going on, then later when there is a lot more you have to focus on.

On a slightly more serious note, I think Americans (of which I am one, fwiw) often don’t consider the relative size of Europe, with things like this being a good example. From an American perspective, it would seem odd, at first glance, that very many people from Turkey (or Turkiye, if you prefer) would move all the way to Czechia…until you realize that it’s basically the equivalent of someone moving from New York to, like, Georgia. Or Colorado to Texas. Or California to California.

The new devs should embrace "nice town" playstyles by adding buildable aesthetics. Stone streets - speeds up units. Grouped houses (like 4 touching) increases pop cap. Waterfront property and green grass could increase villager efficiency, because it makes them happier... Malus happiness if male or female villagers are isolated by accident or RNG.

To play age of empires at any level you need some kind of build. absolute chaos is a build too. for me i couldn't come up with my own... so i use the standard AoE start with 6 food, 4 wood, then mill/boar ect. I think back to how I used to play the game with no knowledge, and I would wait until housed to build a house. i thought it was a mechanic telling when to build a house. not something you have to plan into lol.
