@@ilyaselbani6403 Yep, it was FreakinAndy vs. Lierrey in the first game of their best of 7. You can find the VOD pretty easily on T90s Twitch channel, I dunno if he uploaded it to KZbin. It specifically talks about Phos' strat though and one of the players utilizing it. I'll let you watch it for yourself to see who won and if it worked =) I didn't see it used outside of that (unless I missed one) but the fact it was used at all was great.

How could you know if your opponent picked a civ?

There is a box you can tick to force all players into a random civ IF the majority of players tick it. But if they don’t you get whichever civ you picked. So in a 1v1 if you tick the box and pick a civ. if you get your civ pick it means the opponent deliberately picked their civ and didn’t tick random civ box.

When Ozone placed the outpost and saw the two workshop the first thing I was thinking was to grab the entire eco and villrush the two buildings, at least one of the two goes down before the first scorpion is out and even if they come out they are too close to the vills, you destroy those two buildings and it's insta gg

This game is an example of why it seems to me all-in strats at that level are terrible. Yes you can take down the TC, but so what if you have no eco behind it? The opponent can just migrate and out-boom you and win anyway. Destroying a TC is worth it when it makes your opponent's eco worse than yours. It doesn't work if you went all-in to destroy their TC and they're still in a better position.

DE Arabia is tragic, can't even play all-in off-meta these days. We're now being picky about the location of the tower? How about have woodlines that aren't 4 tiles thick? (Just like we had in Voobly) It's unfortunate that Ozone won this game going auto-pilot meta, not even a Trush or anything innovative. I'm far from being a fanboy of this civ picker, but it's not reasonable Arabia is fixed these days for only 1 playstyle. (Archery, walls, boom) Bring back pre-2021.

No matter what the current map settings are, the top players will almost always converge on some seemingly-optimal meta until someone discovers a way to reliably defeat that meta, at which point the meta changes. There are so many different unique maps out there these days and I don't think Ozone's victory is tragic at all in this case, he won on Arabia by having superior map and resource control. It's not really clear at all what you think should or would have happened in this game if the map settings were any different or if the woodlines were any thicker or thinner. Is building 8 towers in feudal really "auto-pilot meta" in your eyes? Ozone had archers, scouts, men-at-arms, and 8 towers all doing different things which contributed to his win.

@@ethanpayne4116 There always be a dominant meta, of course, however not to this degree. The current meta is more singular than ever. And also quite boring to watch. Pseuso aggression and macro play. That wasn't the case back in 2020. (Ozone went meta indeed, I'm talking about the initial plan, shortly after the MAA there should have been a trush follow up. But he went chicken mode, he tried to sneak his way to Castle Age rather than getting advantage of the huge information he had back then) RIP strategy. No diversity nor meaningful intentional unique decision making.

I guess anyone who makes an archer in feudal age on an open map is just a meta-addicted sellout? Why would a trush get a pass when it is also such an extensively used strategy? I just want to understand specifically what you think the problem is.

@@ethanpayne4116 I'm referring to his initial reaction, it was puristically meta, no strategy involved. I don't blame him though. The only reason this game went off-meta and actually watchable and entertaining is Phosphorus sweating out of his mind to deliver this strategy. Even Hoang himself go for pseudo aggressive mass skirmishers these days. The days of diverse playstyle are gone.

@@ethanpayne4116 My problem is that Phosphorus should have had an easier game and perhaps a victory, Ozone had way too much mistakes on top of going for the wrong strategy. The reason this game was too much of a stretch, is the fact you can't even secure a woodline these days with a pricy defensive tower. Which was not the case back in 2020, where woodlines were thicker, gold generation was closer to the TC. These factors allowed players to go all in so often. (MBL, Liereyy were known for that, each in his own unique style)
