The kings need to be hero units in order for them to be useful in battle. Make them powerful and self healing. Otherwise its too much risk to bring them into a battle.

in the spirit of kings leading their troops into battle: how rad would it be if there were a konnik-king mod? All kings start on horses which have a larger health pool, more armor, and are faster; when that health pool depletes then they fall off and get the brief invincibility like konniks. All the other buffs from the mod in this video apply and maybe the king could regenerate a horse, but I think it might finally encourage folks to take their kings to war

To add to this, make kings self healing and a little tankier; double health, 3/3 armour. Additionally, let them garrison, but only in wonders; really gives a solid incentive to actually build a wonder. :)

If possible giving the king +x/+x armor, or health, for each nearby military unit would be interesting. The king itself being stronger/safer with your military could even make it a legit choice with garrison enabled.

That could work even with him having healing rather than attack aura. Especially if you add him getting a speed buff for every nearby friend and a speed de-buff for every nearby enemy. Then you have to decide whether to abandon the army while you're still fast and invincible or fight it out and hope your numbers prevail.

You could end up making this a whole different game with a few changes honestly. You could give him an armor buff for every nearby friend +1 health for every enemy killed within his aura and make him act like a relic when he's garrisoned. Then people could play for hero kings or eco kings depending on the situation.

The king has too little HP, the guy could heal each second everyone to max HP but two stray onager shots and he is toast, so no reason at all to risk him. I think he needs 5/5 armour and like 250hp, still killable but much tankier. Too compensate it could be 10% or 20% slower. Also, as a kind of mix, you could add a Queen that acts as a king in the winning or losing (you need to kill both)but make the queen like a normal king, 75hp, no powers, or a power like a trickle of gold like a relic.

I would personally give him more pierce armor than melee armor, as you can protect against physical attacks via blocking units but a swarm of archers can't be stopped from focusing. That will also help against early king snipes when garrisoning isn't allowed, you can hide under castle w/ some pikemen against melee but will get hard sniped by range. Otherwise 100% in agreement, the mod concept is great but the king needs to be buffed if he is gonna serve on the front lines.

if you're gonna increase his health and armor the way to do it is progressively making him tankier through the ages. otherwise you're never gonna get snipes in the early game.

Maybe have the King give a good buff to nearby units (if it's far enough from your start location) but also able to garrison again. Still risky given the forward building will be exposed but feels like it would promote using a king offensively while maintaining some risk.

@@CommissarYarric9 My thought is you give him decent range on his aura and you give him +1 health for every enemy killed within that aura (up to some max probably). Then it's very possible to snipe him, but putting him at risk early actually makes him harder to snipe long term.

I think we need the King to have 10x more health? So that it can be used for frontline battles? As they can tank more damage so players are more willing to use them - or a king snipe would be too easy with low health like it is currently. So players can have pokeyboys doing 360 surround to protect the king in battle and the king dont die fast, and the pokeyboys also will be harder to die.

Give the king faster attack and healing, but make killing the king, mean you get that persons resources. Also randomise nuke sizes, radius 10-25.

I really like how this mod encouraged people to be more aggressive with sniping kings. I like the idea of kings having a healing and attack speed area of effect. It would make for more interesting battles

When T90 explained the mod I had almost the exact same thought he did. The king needs to do a bonus to attack damage and needs a very long range so you can hide him out of the enemies line of site and change the results of engagements. If he did a little healing as well it might be interesting as that would give a clue that he's there while also making him more powerful. I love that wonders give a pop bonus to make them more viable.

I also thought that while it would be more complicated to implement if you could give him a status any time he stops in one place for 3 seconds that gives him 5 seconds of 1.5 speed it would make bringing him into engagements viable because he'd have a quick escape, but you could still hunt him down if not stopped properly.

If youre not going to allow garrisons, maybe make an option so when you declare war on someone, it has 60 seconds to take effect before the king can be targeted. This allied sniping is kinda scummy and is pretty boring. Also, you are am amazing caster. How you describe things and reference other topics, like stepping on a turtle, was just spot on.

Maybe make that having the king near your troops makes them inmortal instead of healing them. So that thi inmortal troops may have a chance of defending the king, if not is too risky to have him in the battlefield

yeeeeessss please force the king thngi more, I looked for such a mod a year ago and since I couldn´t find it I put it in some modderschat, but didn´t really get noticed, but to have hero units which are improving thing in a certain radius would be so nice.... civ spezfied you could do kings improving certain eco aspecs, unit aspects as hitrate, gather rate, walking speed, fire range would make it super tense to watch battles where the kings are involved and players have to take great risk to grab great wins..... hope somebody skilled reads or hear this :D
