I am not sure if I'm honored to be in Low Elo Legends, or this is horrifically embarrassing that the world saw this (I was not in the chat, but happy t90 is back on Twitch btw). I'm supposed to be on a conference call right now but instead I'm breaking down my play in this terrible losing game now like I'm Bill Belichick: 1) I scouted the map incredibly poorly and had no idea there was so much water. In my mind when I got the castle down in the middle I thought it was going to be a win. I didn't really think about the danger of just getting cannon galleoned to death 2) I don't know the hot key to select a building so probably couldn't find my university and just made another one (heated shot was intentional because I lived in fear of David bringing all his ships onto the shallow water and killing me) 3) I could not figure out how David was getting all his guys in behind my island, so this was enlightening to me 4) I wish I had stayed on water, massive mistake 5) Its amazing how easy it looks when you're watching the cast, but in game I'm jittery and have no idea what to do... You're a legend t90, I'm 35 years old and until recently legitimately hadn't played since probably 2001 (when I similarly was destroyed by that mission where Cleopatra has like 800 cannon cattapult boats), but have been watching your stuff and having alot of fun playing again for the first time in years. No real danger of me moving out LEL though range I fear.

Legend! Well played man. I know exactly what you mean. I had been watching for years and recently went to try to play it myself (hadn't played since high school 10 years ago) and holy moly... it's not as easy as it looks LMAO. Got demolished a few times in ranked and got very demotivated to play (only 10 online games or so). So I salute you for still staying strong and playing. Congrats for appearing on the channel bro. @@AustrianEconomist -- the first ten online games are hard, especially because the algorithm drops you in the middle of the ELO curve and so you're mismatched in the beginning. Keep going-- between 10 and 15 games, your ELO starts to do what it's supposed to: give you competitive, equally matched games. And then online play vs. people is AWESOME. But it's a bit like snowboarding, the first couple times are ROUGH.

The lighthouse/outpost on water idea reminds me a lot of Galactic Battlegrounds, where you had Utility trawlers to be the "water workers" that could build on top of being fishing ships.

I remember old AoE2 having upgrades for every ship.

@@dse763 Old AOE 2 didn't have Feudal Age Fireships or Demos. So if I'm remembering correctly, when you hit the Castle Age, you'd have the Castle Age versions of Fireships and Demo Ships with no need to do any upgrades to unlock them. Kind of like knights. Then they added Feudal Age versions of the ships, and instead of forcing you to have to buy upgrades you didn't use to have to buy to get the Castle Age ships, they just tied it to the already existing upgrade. I think I remember that I used ignore galleys and rush to the Castle Age to just make Fireships so that I didn't need to buy any upgrades lol. I think the fact that you could do that actually played into the balance of fireships vs. galleys as well.

T90: Lesson to you red, when you build the stone wall you should build it behind the existing palisade wall because then your villagers are protected Stone wall foundations appear behind palisade wall all of a sudden. T90: Ah, see... this is red learning. HAHAHAHA

at the 28 minute mark,red tries to build a castle all the way in the back. I used to try and set up camps on my games. If I played islands or anything like that, I'd place mini settlements to the rear of enemy islands to plague them and steal their resources and/or raid.

the idea of a separate building for water upgrades should be considered, as it will permits all water unit to be placed on the first page of the dock. In warcraft 2, we had the foundry for example.

Blue colors in this game do dip into the purplish range of blue, especially when shaded. I find this often when color sampling screen shots

T90 talking about fixes - I tried my first ranked 3v3 in a while yesterday and the game dropped after an hour due to an out of sync error. Very frustrating when you're winning and that happens.

can anyone tell me what elo is, just bought the game yesterday and it has nothing on what it is, I'm guessing its some form of ranking system but haven't a clue how it works.

It's a numerical value the ranking system gives you to pit you against similar opponents. Winning or losing ranked matches will add or deduct points from your Elo. Low Elo Legends showcases players below 1000 rating. For reference, pro players are above 2300.

the wikipedia would be "Elo rating system". For current AOE, the midpoint is 1000 ELO and that's where new players start-- as they win/lose their score moves incrementally. It's basically a relative skill ranking tool--> where in the scale of players do you fit in. When people say "I can't believe this is 500 ELO"-- what they mean is that the player pool has gotten so much better at this game than they used to be. What in 2019 would have been an above average player might be a very low player now. The KZbin videos/casts/coaching and improvements to the UI from Microsoft have really, really elevated the gameplay (go find a LEL video from T90 from 5 years ago and you'll see what I mean).
