I now own 2 of this Grundig radio's both missing knobs and some other cosmetic issues. Now I'm building 1 out of 2 and you're videos will help me absolutely. Replacing the tantalum cap's to prevent failure. Many Thanks. And Yes the FM reception is amazing on these radio's.

Thank you, Manuel, for this great walkthrough and all the educative and entertaining videos you gift us. You have inspired me to gather courage and try my hand at restoring a radio. I am toward the end of bringing back to life the ugly duckling big brother of your radio, a Satellite 3000. I would not have attempted to start with such a complex set without your videos sharing your line of thought working on radios in general, showing all the neat tricks, and the detailed specific instructions in this series. It felt like you were beside me at the bench, guiding me step by step as I watched again and again relevant segments of your video before repeating them. I am really grateful for this and looking forward your next endeavors. I wish you all the best! B. P.S: Sorry for the long-winded comment, I just felt I need to share this 😊
@electronicsoldandnew3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the comment. The description of the benefit that you derived from the videos is exactly the reason I like to do them. When I did my first few restorations, I watched every video I could find on the subject, and understand that without that external help I would not have been able to continue. Tubes were not. i erred when I was at university in the 80s, so I had to learn from others. My wish is that others can also learn from me.

When I lived and worked in Gibraltar back in the early 1970s, I could pick up BBC 4 even at midday, but from your location that is quite impressive. I'm really hoping I'll find one of these Grundig 3400 radios soon, looks like they are really great to use. Not finding many for sale, right now. Thanks for going through the restoration and alignment. I will keep your videos for future reference.

Another excellent result. Great video. I always find SSB transmissions amusing on SW - they remind me of Star Wars voices. I guess that's where they got the idea from. "Brilliant" FM reception reminds me of listening to international broadcast band in the good old days, lots of stations and lots of different languages. Manuel I don't know what time of the day you were turning the SW frequencies but that is a hot receiver. I suspect it will do well on SSB if you can find an amateur QSO that cooperates. Your time was well spent on this project my friend.
@electronicsoldandnew3 жыл бұрын
FM and the higher SW bands were recorded at around noon. The rest were this evening, after 19h00. I did actually listen to a few SSB conversations, on the 40m and 20m, if I recall correctly. Obviously, I often only hear one side of the conversation, depending o. where that participants are located.

@@electronicsoldandnew You DO know I was joking about that, right? Oh yeah, remember me mentioning the BC348 receiver. I got to thinking about the fact that the IF frequency is 915 Khz at +/- 0.1%. Thank you.

A long wire is perfect for SW. However, I built a miniwhip antenna some time ago (i have a video on my channel about this build) and use it for LW, MW and SW. Works much better that the long-wire that I still have.

I’m afraid I cannot do any repair for you as I live in Madeira. The reason the 7.150MHz sounds off is because it is being transmitted in SSB, which a normal radio cannot pick up. That is normal.
