I put a lot of effort into compiling and analyzing all of the data displayed in today's video. I hope that you enjoyed it, as it was definitely a bit more analytical than my typical volcano news video. So, do you agree with my analysis that Taal's current eruption is more than halfway to its completion?

Well yes, but technically, could these eathquakes West of the main crater mean that magma is underway to create an effusive eruption there?

Think it will continue with a series of intermittent phreatic explosions as I agree that the magma hasn't built up enough pressure to erupt but knowing the nature of Taal it would like to prove us wrong .I certainly wouldn't be caught anywhere near this menacing volcano.

Appreciate your content. I'm a geophysicist, rather than a volcanologist, but avidly interested in such systems. Fun fact, I was on Taal several years ago and supported the establishment of the monitoring network that resulted in no loss of life in the 2019 eruption. That, of course, was far different than previous eruptions over the last century that resulted in considerable deaths. Thanks for what you do and keep up the good work.

Considering Taal has had some pretty massive eruptions in the past you really cant rule out another one like that being just around the corner. Maybe not for 10 or 20 years from but thats nothing in geologic time

Hello, i know i have asked this before, but i would really like to get to learn something new about the swiss alps and how my country will have to deal with our glaciers and mountain growth in the future, since your videos help me understand a lot more than before. Also, is there still volcanic activity in these alps or is it "just mountains"? I got really confused by a older local news article.
@krakhedd
@krakhedd 2 жыл бұрын
I believe the Alps were formed by a subduction zone, no? European and African plates?
@13eanh12
@13eanh12 2 жыл бұрын
The Alps are a mountain chain formed by continent-continent collision. Therfore there is no real subduction taking place here due to the similar density of the plates, instead there is a complex system of thrusts and folds. I think you can also find minor amounts of volcanic rocks in the alps, but these are too old to consider active volcanism still taking place in the alps today.

The volcanic earthquake swarming in the northeast part of taal volcano island wasn't always there. Beginning at 2021, from volcanic earthquakes centered in taal's main lake mitigated to the northeast of the volcano. What's slightly worrying about that place is because that place was one of taal's historical eruption center. Since magma underneath taal is moving more horizontally rather than vertically so I think the magma or volcanic gasses are reactivating closed sills around the caldera causing volcanic earthquakes near the taal volcano island.

That's actually a really really good hypothesis. Although the lava should've cooled by that time it's still possible its remelting what's hardened
@Wdtclimax555
@Wdtclimax555 2 жыл бұрын
@@marshallpeters1437 I heard it from a good geologist who helped ordinary people have a knowledge of the background of taal and the faultlines around the Philippines. On the same note, mr geologyhub also acknowledged the ring dyking that happened around 2021 and is continuing. The hypothesis of the geologist that I follow is that taal now has parked magma underneath and since feb 2021, has been releasing tons of so2 with the highest being more than 20k tonnes and that event wasn't an eruption but a few days later it had a small phreatomagmatic burst. She said that should taal's worst case scenario would be a caldera collapse due to a sudden release of pressure then the caldera collapsing into itself with help of that ring dyke.

@@Wdtclimax555 this is true and could be very realistic
@Wdtclimax555
@Wdtclimax555 2 жыл бұрын
@@marshallpeters1437 yep. That's why we consider taal as a dangerously complex volcano. It's really unpredictable if based it on the norm. Volcanoes giving of more than 10k so2 emissions are considered erupting but not taal. Last year, if not mistaken, it relessed large amounts of so2 emissions for almost 10days with it peaking at 20k-25k. Given also the historical evidences of taal's eruptive phases, it usually culminates into a large eruption especially if it's from the main crater. Last time it erupted in the main crater was the 1911 eruption where it produced a shockwave that was heard in Manila.

I remember the very first major eruption in 2020 just a day before my birthday the air temperature became hotter depite my hometown is 60 kilometers north of that volcano when I was attending a Sunday evening Mass. As I went home from the church those tiny grains of volcanic ash I thought of as ants because it irritated my eyes. Only did I realized that Taal erupted yet I still went out and played my favorite online game in a shop just near my house while I noticed people walking by not aware that they're breathing toxic volcanic gases and I told them to cover their noses.

Do monitoring of volcano involve just uplift and SO2 emissions or do they do heat signatures? Wouldn't heat release from ground be a good indicator of a eruption?

Nothing to be concerned about. Its just minor activity. TO put it in perspective, the cascade volcanos are active all the time, in fact others are more active all year round. I read about the sister volcanos, and its interesting that they don't really contain any hot spots themselves, like hot springs, fumaroles, etc. If those start to show up, maybe be more concerned.
