I think that's because Mr. Dillon lives in Europe, and parenting (for children) is quite liberal minded compared to the "competitive spirit" parenting ethos of India.
@abhishekakula66183 жыл бұрын
It's also a completely different culture. The Indian school system is very competitive and stressful (think 3 idiots). A lot of people learn just to learn and most of our parents learned things by pure memorization. My own dad said he memorized things by repetition and he remembers things from medical school years ago that my sisters forgot 2 weeks ago. It's difficult for them to understand things like ADHD or Dyslexia. I was fortunate that my dad and family were always supportive of what I wanted to do. He always encouraged me to explore fields outside of medicine even though that was what he knew best. I used to do poetry when I was a kid and my mom and day both encouraged me. He wanted me to draw, try out robotics class, etc. He may not have always been able to attend meetings but he never stopped encouraging me from trying my best. My family used to get mad when I hid my grades from them. I now realize they were mad because I hid it from them rather than telling them. They did not understand why I did not tell them. They thought they did something wrong. I think it's just difficult for Indian parents to understand an environment that is so alien to them. If they had trouble learning because of the words they just studied more. I think it's just a matter of time until society starts to change. I hated this movie as a kid because I did not want to go to boarding school :)

One thing I have understood by watching all the foreign reactions to this movie is most of you guys knew that he hs dislexia right from the start by seeing the symptoms, here in India most of parents didn't knew about it till Amir Khan told this to ishaan's parents, this is the awareness we need parents to have so that they can understand their children and their personality, huge respect to all of those who have this knowledge already, they will be great at parenting for sure...

*I love how he was rolling his eyes when the elder brother was talking about is full marks in every subject 🤣🤣🤣Also that father is a very stereotypical indian dad. They believe in tough love. My dad was exactly the same. Needless to say I've gotten quite distant from him. He realises that and has become withdrawn and reclusive. Tough love is good I mean even I know whatever my father did was ultimately for my own good but as years went by , his scoldings and beatings became the most predominant memory and all the loving and gentle moments with him faded away. They often fail to keep the balance between being loving and being tough. I know he loves me but still I've grown emotionally distant and detached from him. It's like we know deep down we still love eachother but we barely talk unless necessary and just basically mind our own business. My mom is the biggest victim of this, obviously it breaks her heart to see this wedge between us as we are her world. But my mom was very similar to Ishaan's mom in this movie and I'm still extremely close to her*

This the most beautiful film... Changed most parents's perspectives... But there are some parents still, they have changed their perspective, but, they haven't changed. I'm a Dyslexic myself. More of Dyscalculia... Problem with numbers.... The day I got diagnosed with it, a cyclone started in my mind... Felt isolated, made to feel it by my parents, now I'm diagnosed with Depression Anxiety and PTSD. Thanks to my parents who's face and behaviour clearly shows that they wanted a perfect child to portray in front of the society, but they had me... I feel so Isolated everyday I'm a grown-up adult... But still my parents frown and growl at me... 😓 My classmates always picked up on me.. now my parents do the same. When will the Parents all over the world realise that treating your children disrespectfully won't make the children act with good morals and values...

See, tbh, more than 80% of kids, both boys and girls, get this kinda treatment from theirs teachers and dads. I want to share an incident of mine. I was in 7th standard, my maths teacher used to be very strict and harsh. I asked my classmate if he can give me pencil. So, the moment I asked him, my maths teacher saw me.... and I was beaten by a thick wooden stick mercilessly for 5 mins. And trust me, those 5 mins were the most painful 5 mins of my life. And, my hand is shivering while writing this.

The movie is not set in the past. It's very much the present in India. It is very common for kids his age to get beat up by their parents and the role of the father depicts very accurately a father of a middle class family in India. This is sad reality. In my opinion, him picking up fishes from the water and putting them in a fish bowl depicts how the society put kids in a bowl, from where they witness the world but find it impossible to break free.
