I will give him some slack since he was basically handed someone else's vision for the game (FF versus XIII) and told to make it into FF XV while trying to appease the people who had high expectations because of what they had seen from versus

On that note, Nomura himself should also get a little slack. People went on and on about how these issues all stem from him, but in actuality, it was the people up top constantly SHELVING Versus XIII so more time and resources could be put into other projects (as we as fixing botched ones, like FFXIV's initial release).

I was referring to the Versus XIII situation, not AFTER they started revamping it into FFXV (which started after all that nonsense I was referring to before was being dealt with). People blamed Nomura for why the project took so many years and made no progress, when it was actually due to poor resource management on the higher up's end.
@daigu25097 жыл бұрын
Actually, the game could've come out much sooner had tabata and his team (Or SE) not scraped nomura's work. "Tabata spearheaded a massive restructuring effort where not even the most well-publicized parts of Final Fantasy Versus XIII were safe. Stella would eventually be cut altogether, and many features Tetsuya Nomura had personally praised, like character switching in battle, were scrapped.[10]"

Gotta give props to Tabata for doing everything he could for taking care of his team's sanity as well as his own in ways he could, delivering the game within the deadline and to still feel the need to keep working on the game after 2018 because he feels he owes it at least, and to accept the fact he messed up on the game's delivery in areas that weren't the best. Love the man and his team, regardless of everything that has happened and all the backlash, for their hard work and dedication.

I like when Game Developers are honest like this. He knows there are issues, but still embraces the experience he had. He knows it could have been better, that there were mistakes and he is very aware of them, but he takes it as a learning experience and he actively tries to improve the experience. Overall, I think Tabata came out of the FFXV experience as a better director, and I still think FFXV is a fantastic game despite its flaws. I'll forever praise the character work done in this game and the many risks it took in trying to get to deliver the story while you are actually playing the game (relying less on cutscenes). I think Tabata did a good job overall, even with all the flaws and mistakes spotted in XV

only problem i have was their take on good old gilgy, and bahamut, gilgy for being the complete opposite of his standerd self (the boisterous, multilimbed, unlucky intergalatic wanderer becoming a single armed, stoic, unrivaled guardian, if they named him something like odin or raiden i would be fine, but it's kinda like making ultros into a giant squid tearing and terrorizing the source of water with no funny moments, when say kraken would be a better choice.) and Bahamut was a massive prick in the whole game. Still nice seeing a summon other than leviathan act hostile for once, and this is the most important shiva and ifrit have ever been, so win some lose some i guess.
@jeremyb50747 жыл бұрын
Couldn't agree more. Clearly a lot of risks were taken. Some played out wonderfully. Others, not so much (but were more than tolerable, IMO). In the end though, I felt a true connection to the "Chocobros" as they're referred to and honestly felt like I'd been on a long, perilous roadtrip. I do not think this game gets enough credit for how immersive it is. It does an exemplary job of making "you" feel like the main character, even while playing as Noctis. My only "gripe", so to speak, would be the cross-chains... But that's likely because I can never seen to trigger the darn things and am an achievement whore. Lol. Other than that, I wish the camera could see through trees and tight spots a bit better, but from the moment I started playing this game I was enchanted. What an experience this game creates.
@captwaddledoo7 жыл бұрын
IDK, to me it felt like the game couldn't make up its mind whether it wanted me to feel like the protagonist and the one making decisions or whether it wanted Noctis to be an independent character. The game keeps doing strange things like letting the player choose dialogue options that vary wildly in tone and yet have absolutely no impact on the story or relationships. So it's like, if everything was going to go one way anyway, why did you even give me that choice to begin with?

FFXV had a ton of problems but after finishing it and reflecting on it i've really come to love the game. Of course it doesn't compare to other entries like FF7 in my book but its still a damn good game and has a lot of unique ideas that set it apart from what everyone else is doing (i.e. the combat, the road trip vibe, camping, going on hunts, etc.)
@phxrebirth7 жыл бұрын
Zen Rix I disagree on combat. It's too easy. For me, it was just holding circle and square to win and walking over to a bro whenever an enemy one shots. And if you get incapacitated just use one of the 20+ Phoenix Downs you got from the Sidequests.
@phxrebirth7 жыл бұрын
IMNelson I also think it's dumbfor you to use Phoenix Downs on yourself. No other game in the main line FF series has done that ever. I think what would have been a good design idea is for your party members to revive you with Phoenix Downs. If they can't revive you within 15 seconds, if they are all incapacitated, or if all available party members are in "Danger." Then it should be a Game Over.
@jeremyb50747 жыл бұрын
Honestly couldn't have said it better myself. Even the smallest detail of FF7 being your favorite is spot on with how I feel. It's very different. But different isn't necessarily bad. Especially if it turns more newcomers on to FF.

As someone who was disappointed in ffxv and stopped playing after first episode... This is very refreshing. Xitra Lunrise that's true, reception probably would've been better without V13, but then again, 15 also wouldn't exist without V13. It's interesting to think about
@chillkid64507 жыл бұрын
Martell Leverett yeah, 15 was a bit unfinished, and I felt like it could've had slightly deeper combat (more magic, other playable characters, higher difficulty), but it certainly doesn't deserve all the hate. Also not a popular opinion, I enjoyed my time with 15 more than 10 (as well as 13). 10's story was deeper and more nuanced and the same could be said of it's combat, but 15 had better writing (not delivery, but writing. Ardyn is more interesting than any character in 10...) and the combat was more engaging and had better flow/feel. 15 could learn a lot from 10 and even 13 a little bit as it continues to receive patches/DLC, but honestly FF15 is a game worthy of the ff name, if not a perfect one.

Well this sounds like good news to me. when compared to other developers who don't seem to care, it is nice to see that the FFXV team is listening to its fans and genuinely seems to want to improve things. I'm glad they decided to keep developing new content to finish it. it is a bummer that we couldn't have it all in the first place, but it does sound like it was a pretty complicated situation. taking direction from the fans sounds iffy......but I mean I've got some major ideas for what they could have done with the second half of the game, so I guess it'll prob be fine. super exciting just REALLY hoping they will follow through!!!

great video! I appreciate Tabata's honesty, and I certainly wouldn't wish anyone to suffer physically or mentally just to finish a game. However, I think the fault lies with Squenix for announcing a release for the game before its completon was clearly on the horizon. I think the devs and the fans deserved a more finished game. And I think we could have waited even another year, but publisher trigger-happiness had to get in the way and set an arbitrary release date

I'm not gonna lie. At first, I had great respect for Tabata for having successfully made FFXV a reality with a mere 3 years of development. I wasn't expecting a great game and granted despite the glitches, it was a fun game but I started to lose all respect for him after his post-release interviews. Obviously tasked to clean the names of the higher-ups (he was just doing his job but that doesn't make it any less frustrating), Tabata kept flip-flopping in his interviews with claims such as:- 'The story is supposed to be experienced through Noctis' perspective, that is why you don't see everything' (Do you even realise that's pretty much an assassin claim as a writer, dude, especially when you're telling the main story?) 'I believe I'm satisfied with the way the story was told' 'The Ptioss Dungeon tells a story but I'm not gonna tell it LOL' And while from early on claiming to want to make up for the story with updates, they kept giving us shamelessly sponsored advertised DLCs with an update with the background of the Six (something that should have been in the script of the game) coming 1 year AFTER the game release?!? (Bad direction much Tabata?) Until a few interviews ago, he was claiming of FFXV as a test and moving on to another project... Again, Tabata is a good director and does good games and pretty much did a miracle by making FFXV come true but his flip-flopping on his views on the game and his actions to redeem his take on the story - like seriously after 1 year, he still hasn't done his job of clearing the holes in the story - made me feed up of FFXV and him in general... I hope that if he does a FF game again, it's not a main FF one or an overly ambitious game either.

I've seen this game evolve, devolve, and evolve again; do I hate [him] and Nomura for their intertwined machination? Never. And most of all, the willingness to fix the flaws and offer fans a greater experience on the deliverance of the storyline. I don't know why some people rather they let FF15 die and just move on. Look at FF14, it was a flop at its first release but Square Enix didn't give up. They rework on it and released FF14 A Realm Reborn and now it's still going strong as a mmorpg. Stay positive, people. My only additional thoughts are: At the end of the day, it's a product. Whether they poured their heart and soul into it or not, if the product doesn't feel complete I find it hard to "put myself in their shoes". Square Enix are a big company at the end of the day, it's not like they're begging for money on the streets... They already have a PR division full of apologists that can defend their game for them! I empathise with Tabata's position, I empathise with the dev staff's position, but at the end of the day it doesn't automatically make the product complete. If we were in a Star Trek Utopia or if Square were a not-for-profit and run entirely by volunteers then absolutely, I'd appreciate the point far more. But Square Enix are a commercial, multi-million dollar company. By the way, I did enjoy the game, I just don't like this idea of feeling sorry for them and forgiving a poor quality product because of the work they put into it. When we're under communism I'll consider it.

Final fantasy XV was a fucking great game, my second favourite after X....VI,VII,VIII,IX I all hold equal in enjoyment and memories but X and XV are the most emotionally intense.. for me that is.

Thanks for the solid, informative video. I'm of two minds with FF15. I'd rank it fairly low in the series. I enjoyed it, but had a huge problem with the un-engaging story and flat characters. But at the same time I'm glad they realize this and want to go back. I think once everything is finished I'd be willing to back an reevaluate with at least a NG+ run if not a fresh file to see if the game works better outside of being a fun if not frogettable "Camping weekend with the boys" simulator.

No problem, glad you enjoyed it :) I agree, Final Fantasy XV certainly had problems, but they seem pretty dogged about trying to fix them. ~Darryl

So if BD1 and BD2 have their hands full, who is working on 16?
@reagenlionel7 жыл бұрын
Nobody. They arent even thinking about 16 yet.

I think they said in the video that 16 would be on a "Next-Gen" consoles. I do not personally know release dates of such, but would guess that they are a ways away.

Wrong. Pretty sure BD5 is already working on FF16.

You're mixing it up. Tabata said his next game will be next-gen, but that is confirmed to be a new IP and not a new FF.

I give Tabata props for doing the best he could with someone else's game, but he does NOT get a pass for releasing an incomplete game and making us pay over half the price of the full game again to see any story depth and character development. The DLC is released for the purpose of filling plot holes and filling in direct story moments- We should not be paying for this, at the very least not any where near as expensive as it is. Enix could have repaired their relationship with fans and gotten more fans keeping the game if they'd made the necessary DLC $5 instead of $25 plus.

You’re avoiding spoilers still after the games been out a year. I’m pretty sure people who haven’t played the game wouldn’t click on this video

For sure. We have talked about spoiler-content numerous times where it's appropriate to do so. I just don't see anything wrong with being respectful of those who haven't had the chance to play the game yet. There's a link to the full interview for those who want to see what was said. :) ~Darryl
@jeremyb50747 жыл бұрын
That's not necessarily true. There's always newcomers and I respect this channel for it's no-spoiler policy. Personally, I have not yet finished the game after 90 hours (I like side quests, exploring and enjoying the experience). Also, with price drops, DLC and general updates come new players. My point being: not everyone who loves Final Fantasy has completed the game yet. But I do see your point. While I haven't witnessed the ending cinematic myself, I am vaguely aware of what happens *thanks* to the internet. Pretty hard to avoid spoilers these days. Can't help but think back to the day when a Harry Potter book came out, and logging into WoW, I heard [name] is dead! About 250 times an hour in the "General chat" section. (And no, I do not play anymore. Stopped when BC came out. Figured I'd cull any debates about that game before it started. I liked Vanilla, not a fan anymore).

Wow, imagine that "fans" by not playing and watching the other things involved in 15 you missed out on the full story. Wow. Thanks captain obvious. The game is great, the story line makes complete sense. I've seen the story several times now and I've seen the movie and the comic etc, the world is great. I really, really don't get what's up with all these complaints. It's probably the best FF game yet. The story has so much depth and I am really impressed at how much thought went into the story.

Honestly, I think XV is gonna be the sole exception due to its botched launch. I'd like to believe SE knows that fans will be less hyped about the next big project if they hear it's gonna follow the same model. Yes, I'm aware SE said before they're willing to incorporate said model into more of their games, but I'm willing to bet it's just for their mobile games. They know well that if FFVII Remake is to follow the same model on top of being a divided game, they're going down in terms of consumer satisfaction.

we need to let tabata know that a very interesting world instead of an empty one, even ACOrigins knows this, that's why they kept the world very interesting, don't be afraid to ask other Devs, Horizon zero dawn Devs asked witcher 3 devs for help. will make up for all the story mess.

But here’s the part I actually don’t get. If the team was so exhausted from all this effort, why were they suddenly like, “hey, let’s do extra stuff we don’t need!” Like, VR Prompto mode, VR fishing??? Even the movie, we can already assume what happened during the whole thing. Heck, they could’ve just added flashbacks instead of adding an entire movie. Why did they go through so much extra work instead of focusing on the main story?

I think the last great game of the Final Fantasy series with a really deep storyline and interesting character development throughout the whole game was "Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7". Final Fantasy 15 wasn't actually that bad - towards the end it made an interesting progress in the story. And even the new battle system (though it appealed to be a little bit unfinished) made some good new points which I already liked in Crisis Core (there the battle system was much more dynamic and flowing than in the original Final Fantasy 7 - although you could just control one character the whole game during battle). But in my opinion Final Fantasy 15 was simply too western, too global - but had too little Japanese spirit, was too little final and too little fantasy. I rather want to have a good PS4 remake of the very first Final Fantasy than another loveless western "Final Fantasy."
@dianuevo89257 жыл бұрын
FF15 was not a bad game, it was just dynasty warriors fighting style game with less mechanics in a open world done wrong. They tried though. So thanks to tabata and team for trying...

He's lying to make himself look good for "finishing" the game again. He talks a lot about how the team were low on moral because the game took 10 years and makes it sound like they were working strait through those years and never stopping. In actuality, Versus was dropped and scrapped and they used the familiar characters in an entirely new game for contract reasons with the clothing company who designed Noctis and the boys outfits. the reason versus was constantly delayed was due to higher ups in Square and Disney pulling Nomura's team onto many different projects. When the game was announced as 15 it was the beginning of development for a whole new game that took three to four years to "finish." He also claims that he is now taking fan feedback into consideration now and that the original dev cycle was not influenced by fans and was entirely his vision. This is a huge contradiction to many claims and interviews where he states he is trying to make a game that pleases everyone and is constantly influenced by fan and employee critique. It's the reason for custom cars, moogle dolls, airships, and the off road car which he also lied about being an idea for the initial game that was cut because he's already stated that he deliberately wanted the car to only go on the roads for a more relaxing and breathtaking experience. (Which it was in my opinion, i liked seeing the landscapes go by as you drove by them.) Tabata has been trying so hard to look like a cool director who saved a dying game with the help of his loyal fans when in actuality he's a lying slimy weasel who's just trying to use this chance to get famous.
