I like to try the egg salad. When I was working nights in the South Texas oil fields, I used to pack egg salad sandwiches all the time. But, I would add crushed ritz crackers to it. Along with mayonnaise, a little mustard, salt pepper, and a dash of paprika.

It's interesting, here in the U.S. @ Trader Joe's we sell copious amounts of two breads, one called pain au lait a super soft white bread and the other is 'sliced French brioche'. They're the same bread in two differing shapes. Its primary buyer are Asian Americans. I recalled a documentary (or was it here on your channel?) that discussed a bakery in Japan that sold American origin Japanese cakes. It told how during the war several American products were introduced such as cheesecake and white bread which became adopted and adapted into Japanese culture! I thought it was such a cool story.

Nice video guys! I just discovered a Japanese bakery in my area. In the USA, the Japanese bread and Koppepan are sort of new. In our traditional Japan towns, we usually have a manju store but not a bakery or sandwich store. Now in our newer Japanese market places, we are starting to get more modern food items. I want to try the koppepan here now. Thanks guys!

You in Los Angeles? I get out there periodically if so. Can you tell me some good Japanese bakery locations?
@luckyguy716 жыл бұрын
Phillip Arpin I’m in San Jose. We have a koppepan bakery in the Mitsuwa market place on Saratoga Ave. it’s called Clover. I’m not sure about LA. The Jtown in LA is more touristy. There might be one out in Torrance or the Sawtell area. Maybe look in Yelp.

There's something about the combo of potatoes with bread that is very enticing and comforting. Whenever I make kopytka, which is a Polish dish similar to Schupfnudel and gnocchi, I leave aside a bit of pressed potatoes, put them on bread with some butter, salt and pepper and it's sooo yummy. :D

That strawberry-butter sandwich kind of floored me. It seems very decadent! As a Nordic person I'm used to sandwiches being open-faced and savoury, but I can see the appeal of something like these Japanese delicacies you've showcased, too! Our style of sandwiches are perhaps simpler in terms of ingredients, and seldom heated or toasted... but I can definitely see myself eating something like the potato sandwich bun - reminds me a bit of a British chip butty!
@thomaslandcaster96386 жыл бұрын
Well it's not that bad, the idea of putting something sweet and salty together works very well. A very nice combination of flavor. If you had asian food or even other type of bakery you would probably had that kinda flavor before but just didn't notice or think about it.
@Yaspis6 жыл бұрын
Who said anything about it being bad? I'm well familiar with salty-sweet, but strawberry jam and butter is a combo that would not crop up here.

in case anyone is watching this much later and wondering how to get sandwich bread not to sog out: You have to put a fat on the bread before the filling. Usually Butter or Mayo (which is made of oil, egg yolk, and vinegar) because fats are hydrophobic; they repel water. So if you coat the inside layers of bread in a fat, it will repel any water content of the filling. This is also why in peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, the pro move is to cover both slices of bread in peanut butter (which has a high fat content) before putting in the jelly.

The 'snow' one w/ whipped cream, powdered sugar, orange and cherry reminded me of American "ambrosia salad" (which is usually whipped cream with oranges (mandarin or normal), pineapple, sweetened coconut flakes and miniature marshmallows...and often some other fruits like maraschino cherries and grapes and bananas, etc., and maybe pecans or walnuts).
