Great show as always guys. Thanks for the studio tour Danielle but you failed to mention the Subbuteo Table Rugby & Table Cricket. Two great table sports worth featuring in your show in the coming months. Good honest review of the new Subbuteo set and I do agree with you Keith that’s going take a lot of convincing to the youngsters. I reckon it will be make or break over the next two Christmas holidays. Looking forward to next month’s show. Cheers.

Yeah, I'd love to see a segment dedicated to the rugby and cricket ones. I can't find much footage on KZbin of either of those games.
@TableTopYears4 жыл бұрын
Sorry Rob - the point wasn't for Danielle to point out every single game in the studio - it would have taken hours. It was more of a fun way to allow you all to see for yourselves what was lying around the place...if I'd done the tour we'd still be there now!!

The 14 Cruyff shirt in 74 was also unique because it had two stripes on the sleeves. He refused to wear a shirt and shorts with 3 stripes made by adidas as his boot contract was with Puma who used 2 stripes. The Dutch FA conceded and agreed his kit would have 2 stripes. Several Dutch players followed suit in 78.

How do you buy your stuff? Shipping from Europe to the US more than doubles the costs. I can't even find one of these starter sets at a reasonable price. I'm already involved in one terribly overpriced hobby...no way can I do two.

@@electricfootballhero1349 I actually forgot. Just on foreign websites from the UK I think. It is expensive but that's only because of the long shipping .

So glad I stumbled upon this show it has rekindled many happy memories from Christmas morning 1978 opening my first Subbuteo box set Floodlight edition, which sadly was lost through the years growing up. Never say never as I have ordered this great game again so I can share it with my sons, I might even get her indoors to have a play but I doubt it :) Thanks, Keith and crew!!!

I love how the cotton pitch smooths out over the Astro. That's how I convert my board from footy to cricket, as the Subby cricket pitch only ever came in cotton.

That's a good idea. Perhaps an astro would temper some of the bounce, especially off the pace bowling.

Great show as always, thanks! As well as the issue with 'Eddie the Eagle' syndrome quite a few of the modern sets/teams have trays which are quite hard to get the figures out of - I'm sure a simple 'drop-in vertically' style would be better and easier - it wouldn't need to be complicated, but of course it's not so good for displaying the figures through a window - unless the window was on the side of the box instead of the top. There you go - a new box design - and I won't even charge for that idea.
@nellyfett26814 жыл бұрын
Enjoying the shows, I'm getting back into subbuteo now in my 40s. I'm also into various action figures. Practically every action figure line has either vintage style packaging or are modern figures designed to look like the vintage toy. Surely it would make more sense to make subbuteo product aimed at us old duffers rather than the video game generation? Old style figures and packaging-effectively re-issue what we are buying on eBay etc.

I like the paintjobs on the modern figures, but they're so expensive in the U.S., it's more economical to pick up vintage used teams instead.

The pictures on the boxes behind the table of a West Ham and a Man City player are striking massive memory chords. I remember having them but can't remember whether they were from a magazine or were included in a set. I'd love a closer look at them, it's like stepping back in time.

Newfooty? This was the forerunner to Subbuteo. Created in 1929 by Bill Keeling up Liverpool way and was a good seller until '61. We did a long piece on it a short while back. I have a look and let you know the Edition number.

One small criticism if I may. As I'm sure most people are aware, this month's competition question is google-able. With the identification element in your previous questions, this 'problem' doesn't arise.

Great show again as always, but I think you missed one goalkeeper type, in the 2000s hasbro era. If I remember correctly there was a diving keeper like the one in striker. It had a massive backend which had a wheel on the back which would allow the player to dive and you would still be able to move them forwards and backwards. The only reason why it’s went under the radar is because it was in a street Subbuteo urban set which had the dream team figures, if you need more info on it I believe Subbuteo collector done a video on it 👍

When you say destroy are you talking about playing football or fighting? I can't imagine American football players being able to run around kicking a ball for the full 90 minutes. They'd have to sit down and be told what they have to do every time they kick the ball further up the pitch.
