I had some PVC exterior 1 inch thick by 5 1/2 wide that I made some fences with scraps. They have worked out great. A little cheaper option as if you have one length is about 40$ and you can make multiple ones. I made one for dados and another for everyday rips plus building a taller one now for tall cuts. Great video Thanks

Will the clamps deform the fence or, more specifically, the DeWALT fence?

Very good. Short and to the point. It would be nice to also have a thinner piece of UHMW (maybe 1/8 inch) that could slip over the fence for those rabbet cuts. It could be screwed to a strip of wood with a 3/4 inch channel and hang off the thicker face to protect it. Cheaper and easier to replace.

Love this! I’ve been watching fence upgrade vids all day and this is the way I think I’m gonna go for now. If I do anything different, I might get an even taller piece of plastic (5”?) and then route some vertical slots out of the material from the top so that the clamps can sit lower, but allow for the rest of the fence to still stand tall.

I love sacrificial fences on my table saw, also love UHMW for very specific tasks (most recently I used it to create guides for 3/16” aircraft cable that was opening/closing elevator doors for a set). Just wondering why you would choose to use UHMW ($300 for a 3’ x 4’ sheet) over MDF ($60 for a 4’ x 8’ sheet). Same results at a fraction of the price.

Not much work. I also made a ruler from PTFE, but the clamps would bother me a lot, because in this place I have a longitudinal groove for a stop or for making vertical grooves. It's enough as a minor improvement, but the skilled handyman wants to get much more out of

@@HowIDoThingsDIY Travis, have you considered extending the fence itself? I HATE the small in feed our Dewalt saws provide. I’m going to extend mine and also fashion a small “platform” under the fence to support stock on the in feed side. Saw it on another video. The guy was also able to support his sled with it. Just an awesome idea.

I think you're talking about an infeed table. There are a few times I wish I had one but most of the time my folding outfeed table is all I need. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oYndh3yJmr16prM
@Oh6Torch
@Oh6Torch 2 жыл бұрын
@@HowIDoThingsDIY yes sir, the in feed. There’s almost zero. It would be nice having a little more to register a solid beginning to longer cut. Imagine the fence sticking out past the table’s in feed. Maybe 6-8”. Now imagine a small platform the size of a clipboard. This would bolt down under the fence. The part that sticks out past what the tablesaw provides. Since it’s attached under the fence it both follows the stock being cut and also clears any stock coming in and simultaneously provides add depth/support. I’ll look for the video.

Great video - I have the same saw and been using UHMW for cross cut and miter sled runners... your idea is really excellent. Question.. Instead of using this for a dado set, do you think by making a cut the thickness of the blade it can be used to cut a straight edge on one side of a board? Thanks, Larry

@@HowIDoThingsDIYthey sell in minute detail every part except for the main body of the fence and the 2 brackets on the end.
