Hi guys! As I am getting more people who are interested in learning table tennis in the Bay Area, I realize many people struggle with their footwork, not knowing exactly how to move efficiently.
Footwork in table tennis is very essential and I recommend to learn them as you learn each technique. Each technique has it's own footwork to make your movement efficient.
This video has how to move left and right with forehand drive. If you feel comfortable with your forehand drive, it's time to learn this 2 points footwork! Good thing about footwork is you can do it anywhere, practice anywhere and it helps!
I have so many topics that I wish to cover and share, but till then! Practice! Don't get behind! And I welcome any question regarding TT or training and HIIT.

I am a good player already but footwork still can be improved. I did an experiment with myself. I used this footwork training just 15 minutes every day for 3+ weeks. After the 1st week I thought I am wasting my time. After the 2nd week I could move twice faster than before. After 3rd week I am no longer tired when moving and could lower my body more. Suddenly playing at the club with my friends has become easier and more enjoyable, less mistakes. There is a very big difference in game quality when you move first, then wait for the ball, then make a shot. Before this exercise, my brain wanted me to wait wait wait then move and make a short, which was bad. I think, in my case about 70% of benefits from this exercise was brain fix.

You are correct! In the end, improving the footwork method, and the rhythm so you can be in a better position allows higher quality shot!

Thanks Daniel. You said that you need more space on the back hand side. I wasn't sure I understood what space you were describing.
@roadtopro3038
@roadtopro3038 4 жыл бұрын
Let me know if I am correct, but I think you are talking about 1:59 (if you can let me know when, I can answer better!). So what I mean is when you move to your backhand side(Left side of the table for right handed) to hit forehand, you just moved from your origin place. So creating little bit more space to hit that one helps your body tend to come back to the origin. So you need to move so that you are little bit further from your usual contact point or strike zone. Otherwise, your body tend to stay on the backhand side and leaving too much empty space on the forehand side(right side of the table) thus not being able to return the ball. This is a way of many footwork to quickly recover after you move around the backhand side corner to hit forehand.

@@roadtopro3038 Thanks coach! Yes I am talking about 1:59. I think what I understand is that when you are doing forehand on the backhand side you need to somehow need to go to the right to be prepared for a shot down the right line. I still am not sure about the space. One is the timing, I would think that you rotate first to do your forehand. I assume that at this point you move toward the right. Or are you talking about foot placement as you are rotating your body?
@roadtopro3038

@@jodan51 Yes, I am talking about foot placement as this video is about footwork. Also, this little extra space give you to control the angle easier like you said 'down the line' or cross court.

Thanks for sharing ❤ my new coach told me ,"my right leg should be little behind when I hit aforhand topspinnot not only in training but also in matches , another thing he told me to wait littl for the ball to drop a little instead of highest point before fh topspin ... is this correct ? My coach is not perfect feel free to correct plz 🙏 I don't want to build a bad habit thanks ..

There is no right and wrong but only efficiency and consequences. When your right foot is slightly behind, you have created a little more room on your fh and therefore you can use more power. Waiting a little after the peak of the bounce help you topspin the ball easier.
