What a game. It could've gone either ways. Both players at their best in Olympics. But Perrson just went for that extra inch. Sometimes the competition is so cruel.

At their best? 42 year Persson? Yeah sure....it showed how good Persson and Waldner were in their prime,Samsonov and Boll who took over in the euro was never close to thoose 2.

​​​​​@@nicklasandersson690Samsonov did have the 1997 WTTC run which would take 50 years for the German to replicate.Boll is 2 levels below Samsonov. Samsonov just lacked top level coaching and reached his peak too early.Boll got some odd wins to the Chinese just like Maze did and pretty much any half-decent lefty including his coach Rosskopf who was always third wheel among Europeans.

Sure,both their both at least 5 levels below Waldner and Persson.im not sure their top 5 alltime in Europe? Id have Klampar 3rd and Stellan 4th,maybe Samsonov at 5th? But we also have Kjell "the hammer" Johansson with WTTC runner up,WTTC team and 2 doubles golds.

I know J. persson is Ex World Champion but Samsonov is Great player too. I never expect 32 old Samsonov can lost to 42 old player like Persson. Too bad Samsonov, I think this is the closest chance he can get medal in olympic

A participação do jorgen persson nas olimpiadas de 2008 so n foi melhor q a de waldner em 2004, o cara ja velho conseguiu mostrar que ainda tava vivo no game e derrotou o zoran primorac, o samsonov que ja havia ganhado a um tempo do ryu seung min, e de outros

Не хватало характера у Самсонова на всех крупных соревнованиях. На ОИ 1996 в четвертьфинале вел 2:0 с Ван Тао и слил этот матч на мандраже. ЧМ 97 проиграл Вальднеру еще в раздевалке. ОИ 2000 должен был брать, форма была сумасшедшая, но 2:0 по партиям и опять сгорел в четвертьфинале Вальднеру 2:3. ОИ 2004 провалил проиграв какому то ноунейму. ОИ 2008 проиграл Персону с 2 матчболов и с 3:1 по партиям. Затем проигрышы Джан Цзике в 2012 и 16 году. Вообщем разбазарил столько шансов за свою 25-летнюю карьеру выиграть самые почетные титулы в настольном теннисе, так не став ни Чемпионом Мира, ни медалистом ОИ.
