the conclusion is the same, it is just easier to use for people not used to excel pivot and chart function. I am quite quick in excel so don't see this is going to be any use to me. I was hoping to see if the formatting was less fiddly with Tableau and result in more visually appealing charts

this was quick example, there are many functions that can only be done in tableau. For example tableau generate analysis for a region (Tableau recognizes geographical coordinates in its code). You literally can see the US map and find out the states that have the best sales, then you can apply filters s to see which of them have the best profit ( higher sales don't mean best profits) all with color scheme and very easy to visualize, for example dark blue for high profits and dark yellow for negative profit, like a gradient. In this example you had three categories of products (furniture, technology, etc) you can sort out which sub categories were worse, for instance, the chairs products had good sales in Florida, but not in California, something might happened... that's it ,many many insights you can get on tableau. And I'm talking about graphs, very easy for storytelling...
