My inner motorhead just has to point out the fact that the original clip used the (then brand-new and rather outrageously powerful) BMW S1000 RR. Jamie's bike seems to be the "Racing"-version of the Buell 1125 RR - which was never meant for use on the street and wasn't even officially sold to the public, AFAIK. Guess the Hyneman pulled some strings to get his hands on one of these and to then get it registered for street-use (pretty sure I'm seeing a license plate on the bike). :D Seems kinda odd that it would "only" make 150hp, because that's about the same power the street-legal version puts out, but since Jamie himself gave that power-figure: As impressive as the Buell is, it's significantly less powerful than the BMW. The 2010 S1000 RR produced nearly 200 hp (~193 hp, IIRC). All that said: I don't believe for a second that those extra horses would've made a difference. That original clip was definitely faked.

The video with the motorcycle… It is so obvious that there is a plexiglass or blank sheet of plastic between the table cloth and the set table. You can actually see the glare, even though they have tried to angle the camera so it wouldn't show.

i think adam's explanation of the tablecloth video might be wrong but i can understand where he comes from, he comes from a practical/special effects background so i can understand him viewing it as a practical/special effect, plus the real explanation wouldn't make for entertaining TV :V i think they used visual effects: they filmed a "background plate" of the motorcycle pulling the tablecloth off and the host reacting with nothing on the table and then filmed a shot with everything on the table afterwards, probably using a green screen to make compositing easier, you can see the end of the cloth go up and through the stuff on the table just before it leaves. the stuff shaking on the table could have been achieved by someone shaking the table while they were filming the shot with all the stuff on top, or even just using more editing to animate the stuff on the table. then in the editing bay they simply put the shot of everything on the table on top of the background plate. they probably filmed it with a tripod and then used fake camera shake to make it look more real, the camera only zooms in and out (in a very static way too) and rolls left and right, it doesn't move whatsoever. i think if they did the trick practically they would film it with a handheld camera like every other shot in the video to make it look even more real. the "plastic membrane" some people are seeing might just be the lighting on the table. there's a fantastic video by captain disillusion called "superhuman tape measure skills debunk" which explains a video that uses a similar technique.
@jeissontoro55523 ай бұрын
I thought the same thing. Actually, the guy on the video takes too much time to start "celebrating" after the cloth leaves the table. It looked suspicious to me
@two8three820 күн бұрын
Hey if they were to think it had been CGI and compositing and explained the process of how someone would achieve the effect with that instead then it'd still be entertaining TV, I mean what does Captain Disillusion do? :P

Instead of pulling it across the long side of the table, they could've pulled the same cloth from the short side, rigging a number of different length wires and anchor those to the bike. Just for fun.
@Gowerrr3 ай бұрын
They needed to be pulling the cloth downwards off the edge, like Adam perfected by hand. The tablecloth jumps up and raises the items, causing them to rip and make more turbulence for the items. If the cloth had a steel beam to be dragged downwards against, the items would remain more or less exactly on the table. REDO!

watching this episode is kind of painful. I wonder, if some of the testing could have shown a health issue for Grant Imahara and his life would have turned out differently. It is not an academic questions, as there is a huge controversy against "random" MRT/CT scans as it seems they do much more damage then good. Still, i wonder ...

Fact is, we don’t and won’t know what caused the aneurysm. It’s entirely possible flying around the country in a pressurised vessel caused it. All I can suggest is watch the show and see how much Grant enjoyed working on it, rather than speculate it led to his death.

Moot point here, but fun to think about. The theory we're only using 10% of our brain, should limit humans to a 10% ability of understanding brain functionality/capacity. I prefer to use the adage, "humans only use 10% of their potential" which probably tracks much closer to the origin of the myth.
