I'm in "Introduction to College Algebra" Today was our first day. The teacher started with this. I don't understand a word you said. I'm majoring in Computer Science.... Looks like time to rethink my life.

I learned this too at school before going to university to study history in Holland. But I understood it all, it's called differentiation (that's why they use the 'd') and it is not difficult. So you'll understand this too, maybe in another way (there are so many videos here on YT about this subject matter). In this video John introduces the so-called Quotient Rule. It is functional ( no pun intended :) ) when you have to find the derivative of a function in the shape of a fraction. As you know the result of a division is called the quotient. That explains the name of the Q Rule (a fraction is in fact a division).

What good is knowing this? How is it applied in the practical real world sense?
