Since there are an even number of numbers, the median would be the average of the two center numbers. Which would be 5. In this case the median = mean. There is NO mode for this set of numbers. Standard Deviation = √ 5 ≈2.236

Mean: Also known as the average, the mean is calculated by adding all the numbers in a data set and dividing by the total number of values. For example, for the data set 7, 12, 15, 7, and 4, the mean is calculated as (7+12+15+7+4)/5=9(7+12+15+7+4)/5=9. Median: The median is the middle value of a data set when it is ordered from smallest to largest. If the data set has an odd number of observations, the median is the middle number. If it has an even number, the median is the average of the two middle numbers. For example, in the data set 5, 7, 7, 8, 12, 15, the median is (7+8)/2=7.5(7+8)/2=7.5. Mode: The mode is the value that appears most frequently in a data set. A data set can have more than one mode if multiple values have the same highest frequency. In the data set 2, 10, 21, 23, 23, 38, 38, both 23 and 38 are modes

Although medians are not necessarily averages, here 5 is both the median and the average. Average is taken by adding up the elements and dividing by the number of elements: 2+4+6+8=20/4=5. Median is that number that 50% of the elements are more and 50% are less. if another number were on this list, say 14, then 6 would be the median. Since there are an even number of elements, you average the 2 middle numbers, giving 5.

MEDIAN means the number ''in the middle'' when the numbers have been arranged in numerical order. Here there is an even number of numbers, so 4 and 6 are ''in the middle'', making the MEDIAN (4+6)/2 = 5 MEAN is the average. All the numbers added together divided by the number of numbers. 2 + 4 + 6 + 8 = 20 Divided by 4 The MEAN is also 5. MODE is the number that appears most frequently in a list of numbers. so there is no MODE here.

The main message missed in this video is that any conclusion reached from analysis of this data and a buck might buy you a cheap cup of coffee. Only 4 or 5 data points, especially with this much range would result in a good statistician saying “even though I could calculate all of these statistics, they would have no statistical significance. Either get more data or just guess. You have just as much probability of guessing the real answers.

thats the method for working out the mean average... the median (with an even amount of numbers) is the middle two numbers added together and divided by two- 4+6= 10 ÷2 = 5....in this case the mean and median averages are the same..✌️
@ajitandyokothakur7191
@ajitandyokothakur7191 22 күн бұрын
For your example, 2,4,6,8, there is no unique MEDIAN defined. A unique MEDIAN is only defined when a set of data has odd number of points. For an even number of points, we accept the mean (aka arithmetic mean or average) of the two middle data points. In this case, the calculated MEDIAN = (4+6)/2 = 5. Notice, the MEDIAN is not a representative of the data set. It is a calculated value and depends on how it is calculated. A representative MEDIAN only exists for an odd number of points. Also, should be noted, for a symmetric distribution (viz. a Normal aka Gaussian distribution), the MEAN = MEDIAN = MODE. There is another problem with your blog. Tha word DATA (not to be pronounced as DAYTA as you pronounced), is always pleural, Because of that, you should say "Data are", not "Data is". The word DATA comes from Latin. The singular form is "DATUM", and the pleural form is "DATA". You could say "A DATA point" is", or "A DATUM is", but not "DATA is"; it is "DATA are". Dr. Ajit Thakur (USA).

Don't worry - he's speaking English, not Latin. Singular "data" is fine. It's completely standard usage. And pronouncing it "day-ta" is normal too. No idea where you got the notion that that might be incorrect.
@richardhole8429
@richardhole8429 21 күн бұрын
When there are an even number of data, the median is defined by the mean of the number below and number above the center. And nobody cares about "datum" data is used for both singular and plural unless you actually speak Latin.

@@gavindeane3670There is a definite difference between “common” and “correct”. The word “data” is only truly correct as a plural. Further, “literally” is not a synonym for “figuratively” nor for “essentially”, and final pedagogical point; if it can be counted, use “fewer” not “less”. @@FastEddy1959 There is a distinction between common and correct but it is not absolute. Usage can become correct by becoming common - that's how language evolves. Singular "data", for example, is correct English, even if it might not work in the original Latin. I'm pretty sure you'd be fighting a losing battle against the figurative sense of "literal" too. I wouldn't bother picking that hill to die on if I were you.

How can the median be outside of the range of the given numbers in the set?
@corwyncorey3703
@corwyncorey3703 21 күн бұрын
@@thomasharding1838 It can't. They are flat wrong. Of *course* the median cannot be more than the set's range. A tiny moment of logic and critical thought would have helped here. Even if their method were correct a simple mathematical error stopped them from being right: (2+4+6+8)/2=*10* not 20 10/2=5 (which *is* the correct answer in this case) An error like this is akin to sliding a decimal place, and so blatantly obvious that any kind of checking one's answer would have caught it. However people are so eager to be special these days that when they think they are right, and others are wrong, they *leap* at the chance... before checking their work. The assumption of "I am correct and everyone else is not" is far too prevalent I fear.
