What perfect timing. I was looking at Bolt Action at the weekend. Your unboxing has been really helpful but a bit scary for my credit card. Will be interesting to see Caesar's Gallic Wars unboxing as I had to read the Caesar's Commentaries on the Gallic War in Latin when I was at school. Can finally play what I learnt many years ago.

Fun fact, the bear Wojtek was real, he was in a polish company after they traded for the cub and rose him. Its kinda pronounced Voytek. He was given the rank Corporal and caught a spy. They used him to help carry heavy boxes of supplies and in return they gave him cigarettes

OMG your video just saved me! I got the starter set and the instruction manual was missing pages! Your flip through of the book at the end let me fill in the gaps (pages 5-8 + 17-20). Thanks so much!

If you build your forces symmetrically with that kit you can make for each side: an officer, a light/medium mortar team (using the light mortar), an MMG team (using the MG-34 and BREN), an AT Rifle team, a sniper team (prone guy behind sandbags with a rifle), artillery/air forward observer/mortar team spotter. After you make all of those special teams use the rest of the infantry per side to make two squads of infantry with an LMG team and an NCO with an SMG to lead it. You’ll have more units than you can use at a time which means you’ll be able to have some variety in your games but still play symmetrical games. If you ignore the national characteristics the British and German sides will be perfectly identical which is great for teaching and learning the game.

@@tabletopskirmishgamesIf you want another tip I built mine as follows 2 squads of 9 infantry with an NCO with SMG and a LMG in each squad 1 Boyz anti-tank team with 2 models 1 Light mortar team with 2 models 1 officer with SMG and 1 assistant with SMG I also built the Humber as MK 2 as it’s more appropriate to the time period. All in all it’s around 500 points and gives you a good start and lets you grow into the game and learn all the basic rules before adding in more advanced options like snipers or forward artillery observers. Basically you can mirror this build for your DAK force in order to get two balanced force to play against each other.

My first Bolt action set I picked up and what a good one it is, currently growing my 8th army 👍🏻
@tabletopskirmishgames Жыл бұрын
What unit would you recommend adding to the 8th after this starter set?
@EdwardEast-x1j Жыл бұрын
The 8th army starter set is good for the price, but you will have a load of troops. I ended getting the 8th Army support group. Just a few models to add whilst you're learning to play. After maybe some artillery or an anti-tank gun as you're likely to come across vehicles. @@tabletopskirmishgames

And the red flame markers are pin markers which are used to mark how many hits the units has taken. If they have taken any hits the must take an order test in order to activate and you subtract the number of hits from the roll. If you managed to roll lower than the units morale value minus the hits then you can activate the unit.

I love Bolt Action, I played in 1st edition and also some 2nd. I would suggest getting the army book for the nation that you want to play, as what is in the Main Rule Book is the basics for each army, but its not an extensive list of everything you can take. I look forward to seeing your videos for this game.

Bolt Action is a fairly light WWII skirmish game, if I remember correctly. At least in the initial incarnation. For example, all medium tanks (PzKwMkIV, T34 and M4 Sherman) were all very similar, in game.
