I'm shocked and delighted that this footage exists. Taboo is such a gem of a flop. I've been a huge fan of taboo since high school in 2003. I never had a chance to see it on Broadway and this video brings up a lot of nostalgia for me. Thank you aurora spiderwoman, you made my day, no doubt!
Still gives me goosebumps seeing this footage and this amazing tune. I luckily went to NY specifically to see the Broadway production before it ended. Amazing! If rumours are to believed, Taboo will be reserected in 2024.

I spent countless hours in high school watching and listening to Taboo. Both versions. Such a great show, I wish they would produce the original version here in the US.

Love his London accent (I'm from the same area of London as Boy George).:)

I saw this both during its original run in London and this production on Broadway. I do not think it translated well to a traditional proscenium, Broadway stage. I LOVED the London production. It was a bit of a hot mess in terms of story and script, but it was a glorious hot mess. The script changes they made for the Broadway production to make the story make more sense and feel more cohesive fell flat for me. Also, the London production was staged in an old nightclub. It was an immersive experience. Philip was literally right behind me when he sang this song. When the Leigh Bowery character sings “I’ll Have You All,” he roamed through the audience, making the “I’ll have you all” promise / dare / threat of the song very immediate. On Broadway, he just pointed a flashlight across the orchestra pit at the audience. The immediacy and immersive-ness that made the London production so thrilling was completely stripped away by staging it in a traditional proscenium theater. Studio 54 would have been a perfect venue had it been available. But the proscenium put a huge distance between the performers and the audience, which, for me, made the whole experience significantly less compelling. Also, there were times when the performers were literally reaching out to the audience as if imploring them to join in, which felt more desperate than confident. I always felt it was a mistake to take this directly to Broadway. It should have been an Off-Broadway production so it could have built an audience. I have a lot of affection for this musical. I think it has one of the best pop-Broadway scores of the last 20 years. So it’s Broadway run always made me sad.

There’s a boot from this production somewhere on KZbin but you won’t get more from Aurora. They NEVER post full boots. Only clips and they never trade or sell either. That being said, it’s always fun and a great privilege to watch these gem clips!
