This is the product I've been looking for. I've wanted a full on ceramic coating but I haven't got access to a nice garage and heat lamps etc. This looks ideal for a weekend warrior like me to apply with none of the complex application problems associated with full on ceramics. I have several TAC system products in my collection and I'm very impressed with everything except their waterless wash. I applied 2 layers of TAC system Power plus at the beginning of last month, prep was done using Griot's clay towel (fine grade) as well as TAC system iron soap, car wasn't too bad. For polishing I used the recently released 303 compound, polish and finishing polish to achieve a great finish, then it was onto the TAC system Power plus. The application was easy and results blew me away, this leads me to the use of Moonlight. Although my coating was only 6 weeks old I was bored this morning and decided to add a topper and let me tell you this, took the POP to an even further level, Moonlight is an great product!! I plan on using their Water Glass in the fall to give the car an additional boost for winter and even made that product at the 1:6 ratio per their suggestions, although they also say 1:9 is also acceptable. There's no reason to look any further than TAC system for all your detailing needs, they have a full product line. In closing I've used their Moonlight, 1 step Master and Quartz Max with great success😉

Whilst I like these coating, I'm a big fan of traditional waxes, purely because of the fact I like getting out there to apply new coats of wax. my opinion of this product is really high.. the way it holds onto its potency is beyond other formats.. one thing I can say is there is a slight issue with these products leaving water spots.. the water repellency is impressive but the beads seem to cling to the car rather than sheet off... So I recomend this product as a base line sealant type sealant and then topping with a nice paste wax or a liquid spray product with good surface characteristics to compliment it.. but like I say its prolly the best sealant Ive used thats not a full blown ceramic and is easy to apply.. the gloss is lovely it makes the clearcoat look like fresh laquer..

I have applied tac system moonlight to my car. Impressed with the water beading. But it doesn't seem to sheet. The beads stay in place. It's clear that it's hydrophobic. But would have expected sheeting. Is this because of a curing issue or perhaps I didn't buff soon enough causing rough surface for the beads to grip?

Great product review. I criticized the format of "brand review"', but this is exactly what i like. Would appreciate a part 2 of this, maybe in a month, to describe how the product has evolved since, and how does it repel dirt. It is noticeably easier to wash? Will it have a mesurable effect on light scratches inflincted during a normal wash? I tried my 1st sealant, wolfgang deep gloss paint sealant for 4 month now. Still visible, but i haven't notice an effect on how clean the car is, or how easy it is to clean it unfortunatly.

First of all let me say I rate your in depth assessments and product reviews in high regard. The attention to detail and an honest review is not seen on any other channel. I'd like to ask a question about my '17 VW Golf which has been LSP'ed with Dodo Juice Purple Haze. If I wanted to use a sealant would you recommend applying it over this (or any other wax) or removing the wax with Lime Prime as you mentioned in your video? Would you consider the Hyd-Re-Seal from your 2016 product awards or the TAC Moonlight the better option to use in this example? Regards,
@ForensicDetailing7 жыл бұрын
hey there.. so purple haze I think its a natural wax formulation.. if its been on for more than a month then whats left would prolly be removed by good pre wax cleaner.. But one with abrasives is always a sure fire way to remove them.. Yes moonlight needs to go onto a prep'd surface, where any existing coatings are removed (unless its another ceramic you are topping up)... lime prime by hand application would be ok if you dont have a machine polisher.. (just be mindfull to level and work the cleaner quickly and then remove and dont use it in sun light on hot panels) once applied and cured you could then add a wax like PH on top.. hyd-re-seal is a completly different type of product.. very nice and cool but totally different. its like a wet coat you blast over the whole car from a lance.. easy to apply lots of pros and a few cons.. but cool.. but yer as a longer lasting option.. Moonlight as a based sealant, toppped with your paste wax from dodo juice would be a cool combo.

i saw on that silver panel you were showing that one side had this product and the other had fusso. the water repellant nature looked about even, would you still say that the silica sealant is preferable just because of its ease of use over fusso? i've noticed that while fusso does repel water VERY well, it doesn't seem to repeal dirt or fall out any different than other waxes ive used. does the silica sealant have better dirt and fall out repelling?
@ForensicDetailing6 жыл бұрын
hey there, so fusso actually holds onto that repellency longer than vritually all products.. Even some full on ceramic coatings loose their hydrophobic properties even though theres still material there. there is a difference though yes. I think coatings generally the dirt repellency is noticably better than other formats of protection. good test would be a 50/50 on the barrel of an alloy. moonlight is wicked, so easy to apply. and just top it with reload or cure to keep the hydrophobiic thing going, but the underlying ceramic should stick around for the claimed 9 months. with moonlight you get a taster or what a ceramic does in terms of surface characteristics, but the application is very easy.

@berczigabor7 жыл бұрын
Just a follow up: because of the high shipping cost and limited availability in the end I opted for Carpro Cquartz instead (which was more accessible to me), and I'm amazed by the results. The shine is not so much a difference, because I already had my car polished to mirror finish, and albeit CQUK improved even on that, it's not that a big jump from where it was. However, what I'm really amazed of is how good it keeps the dust away, because except for a thin layer of pollen-like miniscule particles, dust and dirt has practically no chance to set on it. Also, the washing and especially the drying experience is just unbelievable, because water literally runs scared from the paint now (and carrying any dust with it, that might have settled on the paint), and when coming in contact with the towel, it immediately detaches from the car's surface and gets into the towel, to never return. You never have to go over the same place twice, but get all dry already at the first time, and there's practically no water streaking either. All in all, even if it wouldn't last 2 years as promised, just half, I'd still chose it any time over regular waxing, because of these properties.
@berczigabor7 жыл бұрын
Won't this silica coating collect dust and scratches the same way the clear coat would? If it does, what's the point of using it, in terms of optical results? Also, how hard is it to sand it off, once it's worn and time to renew?
@ForensicDetailing7 жыл бұрын
complex question... first up.. the surface characteristics of it on application are different to unprotected clearcoat.. So it repels water and liquids, resists detergents etc contaminants will not stick to it as easily as raw paintwork, all this the end user can see for themselves after application. So I guess in this sense its the same in theory as a traditional sealant (to an extent).. but the actual material you are putting on the car is tougher and harder and more durable that other forms of sealant or waxes... And has good self cleaning qualities over other sealants. bearing in mind this is a light weight lower concentrated form of a ceramic coating.. I guess the killer question is how much scratch resistence you get from it.. the answer is "some" but in my opinion its perhaps hard to quantify from a user perspective with done side by side testing on treated and untreated areas and even then hard to assess.. Some realistically if perhaps not much.... and using this product isnt a license to use unsafe methods to clean the car... as with other sealants and waxes, the intensity of all the surface characteristics dull down after a month or two but this product is still there providing a very thin barrier between your paintwork and the elements. (works really well on alloys too) Its a very nice introduction into ceramics thats still easy to apply... hope that helps its very good stuff..
@berczigabor7 жыл бұрын
Jon, thanks for your quick, yet, extensive answer - I really appreciate it. However, I'm still puzzled over how much effort is needed to remove this product fully, once it's so worn, that you need to renew it? Can it be chemically stripped (by for ex isopropyl alcohol or some heavy detergent), or would you need to actually polish the car surface (or even maybe compound it)? Also, can it be waxed over to get the shine back once the silica coating itself is somewhat worn, or would it prevent even wax from sticking to / layering over it?
@ForensicDetailing7 жыл бұрын
so it will wear away and disapear as a result of weathering and cleaning etc.. but just take longer so no effort to remove unless you want to take it off.. It wont be chemically removed generally speaking (not with things that are paintwork safe) can be waxed over yes.. Something like carpro reload over the top works well though but wax is fine as well.. wax ill adheare to this... not so good for a sealant to be use on this though (certain types of sealant at least)

fusso, will exhibit its water repellency characteristics for longer because it somehow lock in that PTFE form of additive within its sealant.. and that additive repels water like crazy... but I believe the silica coating will give a harder more durable layer of protection... They are totally different.. fusso is really cool for what its able to achieve (ignore the haters) in terms of protection. you can but I would not. you loose the surface characteristics of a ceramic style product, but adding the wax perhaps gives you less desirable surface characteristics. not all agree with me on this but thats my thinking.. I would top with gyeon cure or carpro reload.
@superficialdetails5 жыл бұрын
Waxing over this will only reduce its ability to perform as designed. Use quartz max or more moonlight.

Polysilazanes is silicon and nitrogen atoms, which i think is crazy chemistry, i'm also surprised they say 9 months and not longer, but i'm with you 6 months and i'm well happy, any mention from in2 about layering??

You can layer but not needed. At that point use TACSYSTEM magic.

Hope this isn't a silly question...do I have to discard the microfiber applicator and buffing towel once used as they would be saturated with SiO2 "shards" that could scratch paintwork if used again or can I just wash them? Would appreciate a response please-thanks
@ForensicDetailing7 жыл бұрын
good question.. so normally once you have soaked ceramic "type" resins into a microfiber, then that microfiber does not want to go near paintwork again.. and it also shouldnt go near any other surface you dont want to potentially scratch up.. so internal etc.. But you could demote them to general purpose crappy rags for like tyres cleaning etc.. but yes you should discard really.. tac is a lower concentration ceramic.. but its still essentially a ceramic so you should stick to those rules.. check out paragone premium microfiber terry cloths very cheap... good though
@hayd19817 жыл бұрын
Thanks- Does that same principle then apply to products like CarPro Reload and others with a similar make up as they too also contain SiO2 -all be it in much lower quantaties than the TAC Systems? Appreciate you getting back to me.

Any thoughts on how this would work as the base or stand alone layer, then using something like meguiars hybrid ceramic while wet with follow up washes? Something to extend the longevity of the coating.
@ForensicDetailing5 жыл бұрын
works awesome for that. so full prep. apply this. and I recomend you maintain it with Wet coat say once every 2 months. and using done and dusted SI if you want something to use every wash.

Jon- I just ordered a bottle of Moonlight from Amazon. I have a question. You explained that Moonlight is about 25% SIO2 compared to a full blown ceramic that are 50-70% in concentration. If a second coat of Moonlight is applied after the first coat cures, does the second coating double the protection? In other words, is two coats of Moonlight’s 25% SIO2 concentration equivalent to one coat of a traditional 50% SIO2 coating?
@ForensicDetailing6 жыл бұрын
kind of.. the thing with moonlight is its using a different carrier as well.. the true ceramics are a combination of the silica resin with other organic resins and a butyl ether solvent. no carrier oil (and I say oil but its prolly some synthetic oil). but essentially if you layer moonlight you will get more of the solid going down. I would say though your probably much better off going with a full blown ceramic than trying to layer moonlight to get the performance of a ceramic.

Hi John Back to this video just to ask you if we need to discard the applicator and the microfibres like when using ceramic coatings ?
@ForensicDetailing6 жыл бұрын
gonna come down to personal preference. Its not a full on ceramic but its still cures to a rock hard similiar sort of thing.. so probably yes. you can just spread it with the ceramic suede applicator towels on a block and discard the little towels if you like. that works.
@sergiosequeira766 жыл бұрын
Forensic Detailing Channel Thank for fast reply And how to wash the microfibres? As normal? Or need something stronger eg: APC
@ForensicDetailing6 жыл бұрын
@@sergiosequeira76 hey buddy have a watch of "How to wash microfiber towels - drying microfibre detailing cloths" on the channel. again you might want to relegate microfiber that you use to buff moonlight off the panel but Im not 100% sure. I did a video called trashing microfiber with ceramic coatings but moonlight is not a full blown ceramic.

forget about car washes being safe or not safe on LSP mate honestly. It makes no difference unless your using some 1980's organic wax loaded with oil.

Hi Jon, ive just bought some of this to try out etc... a question for you. With other coatings i've worked with i've always binned the cloths or reduced them to grubby tasks like engine bay cleans, tyres etc due to the risk of marring, scratching... in your experience with the product what have you done with your MF cloths and the applicator? APC soak or bin?
@ForensicDetailing6 жыл бұрын
relegate to none paintwork / heavy dirty jobs after this or bin the cloths mate. thats what I kind of do now.

Cheers fella, i saw your other video trying the soaking the in APC trick... personally i'd rather bin or relgate them than take the risk! :-)

Hi there. I'm hoping to do a brand new car detail to protect my investment. Would you advise the dealer that you would like them not to touch the vehicle, get it home, full pre-wash, iron and tar removal, contact wash, clay, then add the moonlight? Are there any other steps you would take? And secondly, after leaving it to cure fully, would an addition of butter wet wax be a possibility to further enhance the shine? Thanks 👍
@ForensicDetailing7 жыл бұрын
phil, I would ask for all the factory wrap to be left and I would insist that they dont wash the car or prepare it in any way.. some dealers know how to wash a car properly a lot dont.. important thing to do is inspect the cars paintwork at the dealershipat best you can to look for any evidence of them having gone near the clearcoat.. buffer trails, wash related scratches etc.. if your happy with the car then accept it.. and yer when you get it home you can de-con it if it needs it.. if you clay it you are going to need to machine polish it before protecting it... ideally the contamination level will be close to zero (might not be though) so a chemical decon might be enough. wet butter wax will work on TAC moonlight mate.. in fact would be a good combo. enjoy the new car buddy
