Splendid series...invaluable for 'home-style' scenario writers! I was there in person...and this visualization adds so much to my photographs of the visible remains.

Nice vid thank for posting. BTW If you were in the Marines or Army you'd see toilets haven't really changed that much from Rome.

Did any fort hold a whole Legion?

There were none along Hadrian's Wall. The largest on the Wall held about 1000 soldiers, and even they were auxiliaries and not taken from the legion. The Wall's biggest community was probably at Corbridge, and there were legionary detachments there, but not a whole legion. The nearest full-size legionary fortresses were at York and Chester.

would the retired legion personal live out side the fort/ wall?

They did, often. That's part of how the villages would start to grow up around a fort. Some of the villagers were locals who moved close to where they could sell their stuff. But many were retired soldiers and their families. Various types of military weapons and gear have been found excavating some of the village houses.

Just caught a glimpse of your Vindolanda recreation used in another video! Unfortunately it's one of those trashy "ooooh archaeological mystery" vids, and you aren't credited, but it's unmistakably yours... 2:11 on this vid kzbin.info/www/bejne/p4ixlHeaiaaCl68 ...oh, and just fyi, I was totally baited by the bronze in the video's thumbnail, which doesn't even feature...
