Campaign Blade/weapons: If unit > 25% HP: During combat: +5 Atk/Def on unit, -10 Atk/Def on foe After combat: Restore 10 HP
@CatsLilaSalem2 күн бұрын
Thanks, and Oswin has the lance version: At start of combat, if unit's HP ≥ 25%, grants Atk/Def+5 to unit during combat, inflicts Atk/Def-X on foe during combat (X = 25% of unit's HP at start of combat; max 10), and restores 10 HP to unit after combat. So on lower hp (below 40) the debuffing part starts to fall off, but the healing is meant to help with that

To answer your question a bit more thoroughly: Chulainn (Pronounced as WHO-lin as you stated) is a hero/demigod from an actual legend in old Scottish/Irish folk tale. The spelling is from an old branch of Irish known as Gallic that has sadly been slowly dying out in the modern day and many cultures have slowly been trying to rewrite how to say these names subsequently make this problem even harder on the people trying to keep Gallic remembered. The reason that the translation you played, as well as many of us played tbh, knew this character as "Hollyn" or however it was spelled was likely because the team knew most people would not know how to read his name properly since not many people know about this Gallic pronounciation these days and probably less so back then. There is also a possibility that maybe the special character from the full name "Cú Chulainn" maybe wasn't something that would have worked in the translation patch and they tried to just use the last part of the name and make it a bit more phonetically easier to read for us, but that is very much speculation on my part. I am actually very happy that people are starting to translate this and other Gallic names the way they are supposed to be read because its actually something people who know Gallic very happy as well as the fact I would hate to see that go away. Another big event like this happened not that long ago with the character from Final Fantasy 7, Cait Sith, when Rebirth was announced a few years back. Cait Sith is actually pronounced like ket-shee if I remember right, and there was a bunch of people who wondered if Square-Enix would take the time to actually pronounce the name right, to which they did not but they did address it in okay-ish way by acknowledging the true pronounciation on social media. I cant remember the full explanation they gave, but they made sure everyone knew they were aware and the community seemed alright with the statement to my knowledge, but I remember a ton of people were learning about this Gallic pronounciation problem and the fact it was dying out around then too.

Another funny thing to point out about Cú Chulainn, he is actually the real hero that wielded Gáe Bulg in the legends, so the fact there is a spear in FE4 named Gáe Bulg and Cú Chulainn is in the game, he cant wield it not only because its a pref weapon you need holy blood to make use of but because he is a unit locked to swords when Cú Chulainn in legend used a lance/spear.

This was an interesting read, I remember hearing that Gallic was dying out and that there’s a small number of people trying to keep the language alive. I didn’t know there were pronunciation issues though. (Reminds me of the two Vinland Saga English dubs where I think one of them mispronounced Askeladd’s name but the other says it correctly).

There are Irish neopagans who are interested in the old language because of the lore, the entities like gods and spirits of the land, folklore and folk songs. I am hopeful about them keeping the language alive, too :)

Edain is the more shy twin, and Brigid is more confident, maybe since she was raised by pirates.

Isn’t Arcane Sly dagger basically the dagger version of truthfire because that will be a good use for him? His default dagger is S!Clannes weapon, so that’s a plus for inheritances.

Chulainn is pronounced Kulynn or Khulynn (with some aspirated H mixed into the K sound), but most certainly NOT Choolynn. Source: I studied Irish for about 10 years and live in Ireland.

It can be pronounced either Kulynn, (k)Hulynn or Khulynn (with some throatiness) depending on the Irish accent. but it's not just a H sound.

I really like Brigid, but I don't think I'm summoning. Her weapon having feud built in super useful against saves and is going to age really well. I have even thought about running some Feud skills just to counter specific units, so a unit like her is really strong when save units are strong. Suzuki Rika is definitely tempting me with that art though. I have never heard someone calling a woman the number 8 before, but you're not wrong. Edain and her god fearing hourglass figure is very 8-like. Chulainn is actually pronounced very closely to Holyn. The C is borderline silent, so it sounds kinda like you're saying Hallen with a *haeck* to the H if that makes sense. Unfortunate he doesn't have a prf, because he has really good art too. His weapon is the same as Oswin's, where it gives you +5 Atk/Def and then debuffs the enemy based on your HP and heals you after. It's a pretty crap weapon.
