I want to make my own saddle strings. What part of the leather should I use? Along the backbone?

Yes. That is best. But you can usually cut about 40 to 48 strings the length of the side and they will be real good depending on the quality of the side

Hello! If it’s a good saddle you can reline it and put in new Dutchmen. The reason you have to reline it is because the old one won’t sew a back on correctly. Let us know if you have any more questions!
