Anyone got any tips for getting a lazy horse to canter,he’s a lesson horse so I can’t do transitions with him cause the group listens to the instructor,his name is Hugo and he’s really hard to get to canter,he takes a lot of work to get into a trot then just fast trots instead of canter,I try sit deep in the saddle but I just end up getting thrown around in the saddles,I use my leg and give him some taps on the shoulder with the crop and i just end up looking like a mess falling around in the saddle ? Any advice ?xx
@keatonrjones5 жыл бұрын
You can’t let him fast trot. You have to slow him down and try again. Make sure your legs are in the right position to ask for the canter. Maybe lunge him first so he canter that way first. Maybe spurs.
@pitbulls4life1415 жыл бұрын
Keaton Jones she cant lunge him he is a lesson horse
@pitbulls4life1415 жыл бұрын
Robyn Kelly practice sitting trot and make sure Hugo is responding to leg and other aids throughout the lesson so he does not fall apart as soon as you ask for more. 🙌🏻

It’s amazing how horses are willing to put up with our bull crap sometimes. My rabbit can’t even handle being picked up for a moment, get her eye drops and going back to the living room to play. While horses are able to calmly stand while we put 3 things on them and proceed to ride them around an arena or trail.

I, because of heath issues can not go riding for about a year, so I just groom and lunge horses at my barn that need it (I do not own a horse anymore sadly). It would be great to get some ideas of things I can do with the barn horses seeing as I can not currently par take in my favorite form of therapy lol.
