As a completely blind horseback rider, your detailed descriptions were very informative and helped me a lot. Thank you very much.
@micahgrauel87704 жыл бұрын
Iris Hammond thank you. I love horses so damn much. When it comes to riding, I love riding bareback. The reason is because you feel everything that horse does. You feel every respiration as their lungs expand and contract. Every muscle movement. Every twitch. Every shake. Every step. You really feel it when they ascend and descend hills. People have the misconception in their heads that the most important part of a blind person’s perception is their hearing. This is not true. When it comes to working withhorses, the most important thing I can pay attention to is what I feel.
@micahgrauel87704 жыл бұрын
Iris Hammond oh. Sorry to hear that. Maybe you could have someone train your horse to get used to people riding bareback? It’s just a thought.
@micahgrauel87704 жыл бұрын
Iris Hammond you’re welcome. You may have to try and find a trainer, but there’s no pressure. I was just thinking of a solution. Enjoy living that ranch life as much as I do.

@@angelaequestrian7465 I have a friesian too. He's my first horse, and I love him very much! I'm just really concerned about him recently, because he's had an abcess in his hoof, and has been inside his stable for the past week, because he couldn't use his left leg to the fullest. He's going to the paddock tomorrow, and I really hope he doesn't get one more. I've been visiting him tree times a day these past few weeks, giving him extra hay, putting his hoof in soap water (that was a really hard fight) and really just makring sure he's ok. I start the morning at 6 AM, my mom drives me to the stable at 7:15 AM, I get down to him in the afternoon, after school at about 3-4 PM, and after dinner at about 8 PM. I know this information was unnecessary, but I just wanted to get it off my chest.

Very informative video and you are explaining it all really good and clear! However, I do disagree with a couple of things. First is I think your saddle is a little too far forwards, the girth could irritate the horses elbow and the saddle is tilted a little bit backwards. This could also be because the fit of the saddle isn't right for the horse, but I'm guessing since you're an experienced rider you probably know that the saddle fits you and your horse. The other thing is that from what I've always learned, you tighten the bridle too much. The idea isn't to force your horse to keep its mouth shut, but rather as a guideline. Anyways, cute horse and so well behaved!
@charli.h34437 жыл бұрын
I think the strap over the bit was looser than it looked because it looked like it could have tightened 1 or 2 holes if she wanted to
@mortmort977 жыл бұрын
i was thinking the bridle seemed a little too snug, but she seems to know her horse, and like you said, shes experienced as a rider and in tacking up that horse with that bridle. im sure she knows better than us about that specific situation

the bridle was fine, it is made to stop the horse from sliding its jaw open and grabing the bit. search it up. micklem bridle use ;)

your saddles too far forward the girth should have a hand space behind his leg otherwise the saddle stays on there shoulder blade
@claireeventing7 жыл бұрын
Scarlett Toohey-Crock that's not true but you do you
@beckygamble7567 жыл бұрын
yeah, that isn't true... having your saddle that far back can cause wither rub and other back problems. The saddle is placed high up above the withers then you slide it back to where it naturally stops and won't go back further without force. likewise, if the saddle is too far forward, it can pinch the horse with the girth which is why a lot of trained people will do a process to prevent that. If you want to know about that process then read the next bit but if you don't then ignore it aha. First you stand infront of the leg you want to release first, either is fine. You then slide both hands down until it is just under the fetlock and your horse may believe you are going to pick out their hooves and lift it up. When they lift it up you keep one hand there and the other slightly up towards the cannon bone to the knee and pull your horses leg forward as if they are stretching. Do that to both legs and you'll see that it releases the skin. An alternative method for that is to get a treat or reward and draw the horses head down to between the front legs and it essentially bows which means both front legs will be released from the girth. :) But lol no one cares about other opinions anymore hahaha
@Breyercraz19717 жыл бұрын
Scarlett Toohey-Crock Uhm? No. Your saddle goes where it fits best on the placement of the horses back, the girth has no say in saddle positioning. Just saying.
@melissapomfrey99307 жыл бұрын
If your saddle is further back it can rub and irritate the horse when you are riding

#1 tip for all horse riders and handers: Watch the horses shank, that is the line on their back leg look for that line and that is their shank. Do not stand next to or anywhere past it to it's back because that's where the horse can kick you always stand away from the shank and back or you could be kicked
