Taco Bell has once again brought back their Nacho Fries! These limited time French Fries are generally well received and being that I last reviewed these 4 years ago, I decided to try them out once more and see if they're as good as I remember them being!

I remember when they first came out and they were $1. Slightly bigger box, bigger portion, and the seasoning hit the spot. I would have them everytime they returned, and I gotta say from personal experience that the price was mostly fair until now. It's $2.19 where I live, and while it's cheaper than McDonald's fries, the seasoning quality and portion size decreased. I still like eating Taco Bell, but the increase in price can be off-putting to those that want to try any items.

To be honest I think lot of his prices are via delivery and delivery services notoriously increase menu prices. I know at the start and through covid he's done lot of delivery. It would be nice if he stipulated whether that's the cost he pays in the location or from delivery.

No point in going out only to get a dinky little thing of potato fried in unhealthy oil for $3.50. I can make a bowl of fries 3x what he got for for maybe $.75 including what ever sauce I want, a 10lb bag of potato goes for $5. Just get a quality cast iron fry/veg cutter for $40(they last a life time), toss the cut potato in a healthy fat with what seasons you want. Get a baking sheet and put a baking rack on top that fits it. Spread them evenly so each piece isn't touching and bake in the oven then add a little more seasoning after. They get cooked equally on all sides because of the baking rake and and are super crispy since a fry cutter gets them down to 1/4". You can't even tell they aren't deep fried using this method.

They have algorithms to decide what to charge for items based on location. So for example they may find people are willing to spend $3.50 for nacho fries in Florida but in Tennessee it will be $2 because that's what people are willing to pay there. Anywhere with higher minimum wage or strong economy they will charge more simply because they can.

The bacon club chalupa was just a dollar more in Phoenix AZ than it was in LA California, and 2 bucks more than it was in Dallas Texas, which also was the same price Reviewbrah got it for i believe ($4.99). It was about $5.99 in LA, and almost $6.99 in AZ. It's a joke.

Yellowbird Ranch is honestly really good. Had them a couple days ago and even though I am a huge spice fan (i put hot sauce on everything), they have a pretty good kick and made me need a cup of milk. Let me tell you how terrifying it has been to see products like this get worse over time. My main trigger is the Wendy’s Baconator. The thing had nearly the same flat surface area as a Whopper on initial release, and has for roughly the last decade, gradually decreased in size, to the point where it’s really no bigger than a double cheeseburger. It’s inexcusable and just not right, especially considering the cost of inflation.

I’m a manager at Taco Bell and it’s awful. Almost every car orders like 5 orders of frys and we’re only supposed to keep 8 orders at a time on line. Our deep fryers aren’t big enough to fry huge batches they’d have to give all stores bigger and better fryers. They keep them as limited time because our sales boost every time they come back. My store specifically gets about a 7% sales boost. If they kept them as a permanent item, the sales would eventually go back to normal. Basically, bringing them back twice a year gives them more money than if they kept them forever.

I don't really mess with Taco Bell anymore. Their regular menu these days is very limited, and I'm not a fan of the "limited time" items that come and go quickly and repetitively. For me there are some limited time menu items that are understandable when it comes to fast food (ex: the McDonald's lobster rolls or Wendy's swiss and mushroom burger) because those items may be seasonal or not regularly stocked. But for things like nacho fries, how hard is it for them to just regularly keep potatoes stocked in a freezer?

I think your analysis is legitimately correct regarding business strategy for the fries. The act of re-releasing an item has diminishing marginal utility from a company profits perspective. Thus, at a certain point, the periodic profits from re-releasing them won’t stack up to what the profits would be in the same time period if they always sold them. The Nacho Fries only really work for me when paired with the nacho cheese sauce Taco Bell provides. Also, I find that the Nacho Fries tend to get cold rather quickly, perhaps due to their potato density. As others have mentioned, Taco Bell needs to make the Nacho Fries a permanent part of their menu at this point. They should consider dropping the small potatoes in a cup that they offer, as they often taste soggy and rubbery by the time you get around to eating them because of the steam generated in the cup container they are stored in.

Wish fast food chains were more keen to bringing regional items to other regions. Over here in Romania, McDonald's have these really nice fries called Dipping Strips. They're more wider, and they are less seasoned with salt, however they are seasoned with onion bits and black pepper. They're considered the same as regular Large french fries (same price in menus and such). Personally I think they're way better than the regulars, but unfortunately they're only served here in Romania. Oh, and as the name implies. They ARE made for dipping in your "favorite sauce" but I personally found that they can go well on their own, too.

I tried Nacho Fries on your recommendation - absolutely INEDIBLE. Massively over-spiced. Eating them was like eating teaspoons of Spice Blend. I think that might have been just the store I was at, but in my opinion, they were an absolute disaster.

What upsets me about the fries is they keep bringing them back, when they could bring back something like the Double Crunchwrap supreme. They are the cheapest to make for sure and they sell, so I see why.

When they were first released they had a kick of cheesy, taco seasoning and were sooo good. cheese sauce masked the seasoning taste so I preferred it without it but now with the re-releases I feel like they cut back heavy on the seasoning and you get a little tickle of it.

I like the fries... but I don't eat fastfood so often that I would go out of my way to get them. But if they were there and in stock, I'd take them over the chips anyday.

One of the biggest appeals of fast food used to be that it was inexpensive due to it simply being mass-produced, chemically processed trash with little-to-no nutritional value. Now it seems to cost almost as much as the equivalent from a normal restaurant that uses real ingredients.

The most ironic thing about the Nacho Fries is that Taco Bell once had a $2 special that included a burrito with beef nachos and a soft drink claiming that fries aren't a meal, but with the same $2 you could get fries with, you could get that meal instead. The fact that they decided to sell fries shortly afterward makes you wonder if that defeats the purpose of that meal in the first place.

You should've tried the yellowbird nacho fries! I thought they were really good. The yellowbird sauce actually has some spice. If you order online and add extra fries, its only an extra 60 cents (at least for me) and the portion was perfect. Absolutely loved.
