Tacoma 5-Speed Swap Wiring & Reverse Light Wiring

Sup guys! This is one of the vids I know a lot of you have been waiting for. The "wiring" involved in doing the 5-speed swap on your 1st gen Tacoma. It's been MONTHS since I haven't had working reverse lights lol (ever since I did the 5-speed swap) 😂 but now I finally do, and I just wanted to say thank you guys for your patience! There's not really much wiring to do besides the reverse light stuff, but as for getting your truck started its pretty simple and I hope I explained it well enough for you guys to understand what to do and sort of how things work.

Usually when your 4wd light flashes it means that it’s not fully engaged. Do you know if it’s fully engaged while the light flashes?

The two biggest wires on that harness are the ones that you can just cut and spice together and then it will start. That way you don't have to leave that thing plugged in. I believe it's the middle two wires. They looked a little bigger than the rest. I just cut the plug off and splice Two wires onto the two I'm talking about and ran them up to my clutch pedal switch.

When you spice the two together, will that also allow the cruise control to work? Or do you also have to jump a different set of wires for your cruise control and what colors were they?

@@Moar_Throttle No, it will be two different wires for the cruise control. Two main wires are just for the start. I used two others for the cruise and two others for the reverse lights. Do some digging and find ur wiri g diagram for ur old auto tranny and it will tell you which color wires for the cruise and reverse light, that went to that plug that you cut off.

My thinking is that now I find the “Drive” wires on the plug by checking continuity like shown in the video and jump those together and cruise should work, right? I’m assuming that’s the other two wires you jumped for cruise control to function? I appreciate your help on this greatly🙌🏼

Yes. Or you can look at a wiring diagram for your truck and see which wires go from the cruise control. Or if you have a diagram for your ecm it will show you which two pins go to cruise then just look at the wire color and it should be the same down where the plug was. Easy. You just got to find the wire colors. I used a diagram for my ecm, but you can also look at the wires going from the cruise control box.

No, your title is the same. As for the neutral safety switch that’s only if you’re converting auto to manual.

Its because the A/T ECU is trying to shift the transmission but it's not detecting any signal to shift off of.

Question ik this is a year old but does your cruise control still work if you leave that in park?

My cruise control never worked to begin with so I wouldn’t know how to get it working. But I would assume no if you did it this way since the ecu would read that the transmission is in park.

If you wire the drive wire to power through the clutch release switch, when the clutch is released (driving) it will think it's in drive, and allow cruise to work. You can also wire your park to power through the clutch depression switch so it only thinks it's in park when the clutch is pushed in, that way you have to push in the clutch to start the vehicle.

The reverse light switch is pretty much within the neutral safety switch since your truck is an automatic.
