The agency says this is what’s needed to afford to rent a two-bedroom apartment in Tacoma.

I am so please to see an employer being more sensitive and sensible to having a living wage that can support their value and mission. Wonderful news🙏🏼

It doesn't even make sense to go on to school anymore. Just become a UPS driver or trash collector and make more.

Some degrees still make better money, but getting a degree for the degree's sake is over.

Finally, an employer that understands. Your chances of working with somebody that is either homeless or has had to rent out a space in their apt to afford the apt, that is the norm right now. Do we really want more homeless people? No? Then wages must get better. The economy suffers when people lose their housing. The economy improves when people earn an actual living wage.

This is only happening because THA is federally funded. The math would never work in a private business.

That’s what I thought but someone In this comment thread said I should go read a book on economic theory. Why go read a book about it when I have first hand experience? Have you relinquished and narrowed our power or experience of personal testimony to only academia? So only well read academics can feel market pressure and respond accordingly? Geez no wonder we are where we are

@@ingramr88you should as you have no idea how inflation workers, or the fact that there are other ways to fight inflation that do not include suppressing worker pay. PS you can only suppression worker pay for so longer before that trick stops working. That is why were are where we are, but what do I know...... I only told you that you need to read some economic theory.

Sounds great. But if their entry level minimum wage is now $32 an hour, that means that every position above that will also be getting a substantial pay raise. The report never referred to that part of the story.

The average Tacoma cop makes $47.50/hour. We could just decrease their pay to compensate the housing authority better. Doesn't that sound fair?

Or it would means a lot of companies will move out or layoff.

We will be a nation of renting rooms since we can't afford a 1 bedroom apt or live in our cars or tents.

For prospective, the average police officer in Tacoma makes roughly $47.50/hour. This is not a lot of money, and those complaining should be ashamed of themselves.

Well if someone sitting at a desk doing nothing all day is worth $35 an hour, those cops should be paid more.

Sorry, they are a housing organization, not a bakery or grocery store. Your taxes, if you live in Tacoma, pay for this, along with grants. No bread will be affected.

@@sallymoen7932 oh okay I see. I thought they were talking about the whole city of Tacoma that the housing authority was gonna to ask that minimum be increased for the whole city. My bad
