I know that this is a 6 yr old review, but this car is still a popular model, and I just purchased one for my son based mostly on many positive reviews I've read and watched (yours included)! We are both 100% pure beginners, so we're learning on the job so to speak. My son isn't driving it as hard as you. Mostly asphalt and grass/dirt. That may change! Overall extremely pleased with the quickness and handling. But like you we want more from our battery. I purchased an extra nimh, but between the two we might get 25-30 minutes run time depending on how hard he pushes it. I wanted to know if you would be able to explain to me how one converts this rc over to lipo? Both batteries use completely different connectors, so does that require rewiring the existing ESC, or does a new ESC with lipo wiring need to be purchased? Does the receiver need to be altered or replaced? And does the transmitter then need to be re-binded to the receiver once the conversion is finished? And could you recommend a quality 2S or 3S lipo to use with this vehicle? Love this car, and love your review! Was a big factor in choosing this for my son's first rc. Thank you!

What a great review. Mine is coming in a few days. I wonder if it will come with the old style or new style spindles. What model are these tires and wheels? You didn’t mention that, the ones on the car in the video. Thanks for posting.

Thanks! This car is still around after 5 years and still have a blast with it! Not sure what the wheels are but the tires are some of HPI's street tread patterns.

I just bought this buggy as my first hobby grade RC.. I got a couple of questions I hope you can answer.. First-- How does it handle on gravel roads.. Im gonna be mostly driving it on on road and loose gravel. 2nd- I bought a venom Lipo 2c battery that said it has universal connectors.. Will I have to modify anything to connect my LIpo? Lastly did you use the stock radio transmitter or something else?

Correct. The stock battery is garbage. Throw it away and get some cheap lipos and a lipo charger if you don't already have one

I'm into rc cars, boats, and heli's. Got several 60+mph trucks. My son is about to turn 5 and drives my mini vxl slash on 50% throttle. I want to get him something of his own in this price range. Thought about a mini t which I used to have but traded off after putting a mamba 25 system in it. Think this would fit the bill? Are all parts available? Don't want to get him something that will be trash if he breaks it.

Dave, Unfortunately no I would not recommend it. The battery it comes with is a complete waste and you'll have to pick up some extra parts for it right away as well (CVD's for the front and set of spindles) and parts are very difficult to get a hold of. I would recommend a larger, more name brand 1/10 scale for a first rc. Something like a Traxxas Rustler. EVERYBODY and their brother sells Traxxas stuff and there is great community support for their products. Check out the forums at www.ultimaterc.com

+A. Wheeler The buggy comes with "banana plugs" from the factory. Just take the car to your local hobby shop and have them solder on any connector of your choice. One has a brushless motor, one has a brushed motor. The brushless version has a better quality ESC and also has many aluminum parts including the chassis, and shock towers and has a better quality, adjustable motor mount. Long story short, spend the little bit extra money and get the brushless, it is well worth it.
