I was wanting to switch from Army to AF on the Officer side but didn’t want to lose the infantry (the wife doesn’t like the long field days). My question is how long can a TACP Officer stay operational and what’s the advancement opportunities on the Officer side in TACP. I have heard they are cut off from mainline AF Command because they are usually attached to Army units. Last question what are the liberties you are afforded during TACP School House and the new FTU? Great videos, Mark. What are the most recent attrition rate numbers for TACP preferably by age group? For example "x% for those that entered at 18-20 yrs old", "y% for those 21-24", and "z% for those 25 and older". If you don't have hard data, your guess is sufficient. Thanks!
@FunkyBunkley4 жыл бұрын
That’s something that I’d have to get back to you on. When I was instructing there, the 18-20 year olds were hit or miss. They lack the maturity than older guys. The 21-25 year olds do good because they’re still young enough to be able to recover quicker and they’ve got a little more maturity. From 25-32ish you’ve got adults, but it’s hit or miss if their bodies hold up, and anything over the guys really have to focus on staying healthy and being fit being their biggest issues.

I was never a SOF TACP, so I'll probably never get around to making one of those. But I'm familiar with how to get selected, and it's fairly simple. As soon as you've made it through all of your training, you can then go assess to tryout for special tactics. Special Tactics TACPs support Army Special Forces, the Ranger Regiment, or SEAL teams depending on what Special Tactics squadron that you'd get selected for. On the other hand you have the bulk of the TACP career field that supports conventional Army units.

At this point, what’s the most common first duty station for TACP? Also, i heard that it’s mandatory for career long TACPs to do 1 yr in Korea. Is that true?

@@FunkyBunkley would you discourage someone from TACP if they don’t want to be stationed in Germany, Italy, S Korea or Japan? I love travel, but after 10days out of the country I always want to be back in the USA. If you fill out your “dream sheet” with all US bases, how certain can you be that you won’t end up stationed abroad. I’d enjoy the deployments out of country (even to 3rd world/dangerous places) but living semi-permanently outside the US wouldn’t be my preference and I don’t think I’d be happy. Thanks for the help. @FunkyBunkley4 жыл бұрын
The patrolling that is learned in the schoolhouse is taught from the Ranger handbook. It’s an intro to it, and it’s shown to get familiarization. The TACPs aren’t as skilled in the craft of patrolling like Rangers, as it’s not our primary job.

Hi, I'm very interested in possibly going to pursue this particular career field, as I graduate high school next year. But with that said, I'm not the best at math. Do the academics in the pipeline overall, generally require You to be really good in that?
@nickkirsch17402 жыл бұрын
Would also like to know about this , good question
You should check this guy out (see my link above), he's not just good for passing the asvab, he's great for learning all sorts of math and I suggest doing a little home schooling of your own, meaning, learn the terms of stuff that you may be struggling with, and go look for additional info. So he may go over 1 or 2 questions with lets just say geometry formulas, well I suck at these formulas, so I would go learn a ton about formulas, and than come back to his lessons, than he'd stump me on another question, and I'd just keep doing that until you feel confident that you can pass.. here's my advice, because this is a very serious job that involves numbers, if im an army guy, and you're calling in a danger close missile, and I can't have faith in you to punch in all the right coordinates, you shouldn't go yet.. so thats a question you have to be honest with yourself about. Are you confident that no matter what the number, no matter what the equation, no matter what the situation, you can call in the coordinates on the spot? Secondly im not in, just so you know, im not coming to you as a vet, or anyone with any experience, I can't tell you whether or not you'll need to know AP level calculus, all i can say is im studying my ass off for the asvab, because I want this job, and I understand that only the baddest dudes on the planet get to do these kinds of jobs, so im not cutting any corners, im not trying to get through by the skin of my teeth, I want the people around me to say "that dudes squared away." I'll be leaving in September, so maybe ill see you there. If you need some extra time to study, I strongly suggest you take it. Better to be prepared.

@@TheSharpRogue oh okay, well than look up "grammar hero." Thats his KZbin channel. He a has a few Playlists that will help with math, and make sure you know your geometry formulas before you go, and some basic algebra. That will help you to get a pretty good score. I believe to be a tacp you'll need a 59 or 60. Could be lower though. I'd still aim for about a 60 tho. Hope the best for you, good luck.
