Listen to one of Anthony's 24 minute clips saying that "Sirius XM was gunna hire Jim Breuer for a million dollars but he said no". According to opie it was be cause of the backlash that he would get from the "comedy community". Its the one with Daffy duck on stage with opies face replaced by Opies. He told his 2 fans that he has 200 pages already written yet that was over 3 years ago.

In some ways, Opie is a fascinating little insight into the world of media and actually success in general. He could be a subject in a Gladwell 'Outliers' book. He just sort of shows up born in a time and place where happenstance results in him winning a radio bonanza lottery and carrying on for years mistaken for being an entertainer. He does deserve credit for understanding what kind of real entertainers need to be around him. or... he did. he used to get that. He's a Board Op and a 'producer' but yes, somehow he tricked himself and others into believing he was also one of the entertainers. When he tried to go 'solo' in these podcasts it's jarringly obvious.

After doing it since he's 18, Opie managed to get himself a late night show spinning records on Long Island before meeting Ant. 5 years later, they were both millionaires. He gets credit for discovering Ant but more often than not the show was entertaining in spite of him, not because of him.

CAKESTOMP! Opie didn’t have the same comedy instincts and Anthony and Jim, so he resorted to straight shock tactics. Sometimes this actually worked well and made for some uncomfortable radio. Other times it was cringe in the wrong ways. That said, I’m not an Opie hater like many others. I listened to the show every day from 2006 or so until the end-Opie does deserve credit for hosting the show and giving it direction. The old Nopie shows were often directionless and would drag. Anthony was not a good host on his own back then, and he downplays this a bit in this clip.

Fabricated, bullshit stories that never happened, like that shithead Opie told over the years..? Or should Ant have brought up even more situations of where Opie was the most insecure, douchebag, for the way he treated staff and guests, and exposed him even more?? Come on man…!

@@thankyoujodi It is comical when low brow dunces try to shield themselves, as Ant did here, by using the "Johnny did it too" defense. If your book is lazy, then it is. I was just listening to a show from March 2005, Opie was saying how he hoped that his career would be over sooner then later. He couldn't understand how Anthony and Jimmy were still into doing radio.Opie actually predicted where Ant is today, and the type of show he would be doing. As it turns out, Opie had been doing radio for 12 years before he hooked up with Anthony. 12 years of radio by himself, and he had made to overnights on a Long Island station. So I don't see how he can say anything but how Anthony helped his career as well as the other way around? If it wasn't for Anthony we never would have had heard the scary talented Greet Opie Hughes.

Opie hides in his apartment, seething with bitter hatred towards someone HE betrayed.. ..Meanwhile, Anthony built an entire media network, & employs all the people who Opie constantly tormented, especially when it came to giving them the baseline comfort of job security. Anthony doesn't need to turn people against Opie, but Opie continues to say it anyway, it helps him cope I guess
@ronrubicon1593

10:36 That would be totally fine if Opie was humble enough to be honest about it. It's perfectly okay to not have the ability to hang with some of the funniest, wittiest, quickest people on the planet. It's in no way fair to expect that of anyone, even a guy who has been in radio a long time. Not everyone has that skill. I don't. But I know it, it's not something I'm ashamed of, and I have no hesitation in admitting it. But Opie's huge ego would never allow him to find a comfortable way to just fit in. People admire and respect the gift of gab, and they also admire humility and honesty. You better have at least one of those. Opie never offered either one. The rare times he did try to be honest about it, it was always tinged with ego. It's why he's hard to have any sympathy for.

I think that whoever is writing the book review also listened to the book on tape. I think that they are equating the laziness to Anthony laughing on the track - from time to time. However, I personally feel that Anthony's emotional investment in the reading of his book adds to its charm. These guys are legitimately funny and laughing at each other's goofs all the time. Why wouldn't that show up in the retelling of his journey in radio? Again, I thought it added to the charm of the book. I didn't think it was lazy at all.

Opie would make such a great case study. Especially these days where he broadcasts via Facebook (I think) to his tens of followers about how he HATED doing the show and how he so obviously still WANTS to do *A* show but he just can not be assed to put together anything except that mostly whining about the old days with O&A, how Jim & Sam SCREWED him out of the morning time slot even though IIRC Opie was the one who refused to sign a new contract for so long that SXM started up the Jim & Sam Show and even then IIRC Opie was given his choice of timeslots and chose to do his afternoon show until HR tossed him for taping a guy in the bathroom after he'd already been told once to stop it. I'd like to think that in his personal life with his wife and kids that he's just a wonderful guy but JFC he's such a head case.

Opie never understood that he won. He has an amazing life. He is a 60 year old man with a family. Ant is empty but at least has moved on from O&A

Funniest part is opie Anthony and Jimmy all want to do comfortable radio seemingly forgetting the best part of every radio show ever is the staff fights drama etc...

The book was lazily put together, I read it in like half a day. Opie did not lie.

Hate to say it, but I have to agree with the Opester on this one. It was a lazily compiled book. The book felt like it was compiled by the ghost writer listening to available radio show clips available on KZbin with little additional input from Anthony itself. Plus the balance content is way out of whack with what radio show listeners will find interesting. Literally a couple paragraphs mentioning Jim Norton in passing but page after page on Anthony’s fling with the weather chick. It was not a good book.

For their information, I pay 5 bucks a month to be a member of the 'Opie's Look Out Club' and we all take it VERY SERIOUSLY (complete opposite of 'not seriously') Now, I'll take any pubbs (publicity) but the last thing the club needs is ridicule. Now, I can tell everyones just foaming at the mouth, waiting to ask me a million questions about the club.Though all members are sworn, under penalty of death (blocked by Op) , not to disclose any information, sensitive or otherwise, regarding the club, its members or activities. However, I have also never considered myself a member of the 1%...so i'll answer what I can... I just ask that you all keep your questions on the side of... A LIL MATURE... okay, little people??!!

It’s hilarious to call someone’s book lazy when you are too lazy to read the book yourself so you have someone else read it and give you the information. The irony is hilarious. But this is Opie we are talking about here.

@@TL2354 it might be even more hilarious that that’s the response you came up with. In no way did I say anything remotely close to anything that would lead you to that response. Keep trying. You’re doing a great job!!
