TACTICAL ANALYSIS | In numerical inferiority versus Germany, Croatia change its goalkeeper for an extra court player, so they play with two pivots in attack.
The regular pivot takes position between No. 2 and No. 3 defenders on the left side of the attack, while the second pivot occupies No. 1 and No. 2 defenders, close to the substitution area.
The regular pivot, by blocking the centre half defender with his back, stops the defence shifting towards the ball passing, creating a 3 vs 2 situation in this way.
The centre back quickly passes the ball to the left back while the second pivot runs off to substitute back the goalkeeper.
Left back attacks the area between the No. 1 and No. 2 defenders then sets up a good shooting position for the left wing.
