I took this class back in May with Dave along with instruction from Micah and I cannot recommend it enough for anyone looking to expand their skills and knowledge around pistol/carbine use. This is a small glimpse into some of the content they teach and the instruction is dynamic to the student and they pay close attention and provide real time feedback for you to use.

Question for the instructor: As a veteran I'm sure you've been at the receiving end of this. So in your experience, what part is doing that actual suppression? Is it the constant bangs and muzzle flashes from the gun? Is it the bullets whistling by? Is it the dust kicking up around you from impacts? If any of the two of the latter: How important is the relative accuracy of the suppressive fire? You do say ita not important to hit, but how close do I have to get with my rounds to have the desired effect? Thanks in advance for answer, Best regards from a Swedish soldier.
@jamesharding34592 жыл бұрын
Rounds in my general vicinity is of only marginal concern, especially considering the marksmanship of the average soldier under stress. My job is to lead my platoon, and I can't very well do that if I'm spending the entire firefight behind cover -- I need to be able to direct my squad leaders and communicate with higher assets, and I need to be able to see to do that. So unless rounds are very close to me, say within 5-10 meters, I'll still be up and observing. It's a risk, but it's one I'm willing to take.

Well... I guess hitting with suppressive fire makes it even better, but that kinda a bonus. If you've ever done FoF which I really recommend you to do. You know that getting hits isn't easy when you're in a tactical disadvantage and very easy when you are in a tactical advantage. Meaning tactics trump accuracy... sorta.

What is the purpose of transitioning to the pistol in this particular case? It seems like the rifle already trained on target would be a more immediate threat while moving to cover. I'm honestly curious in the reasoning behind it.
@ambjornborjesson54813 жыл бұрын
I think the idea is that the rifle ran dry. So you use your sidearm to suppress the enemy. Thus creating a temporary concealment of lead to get you into proper cover where you can reload your rifle safely. That's atleast how I understood the intent.
@bobchester15683 жыл бұрын
@@ambjornborjesson5481, that’s it exactly. The drill is an “oh shit!” my primary weapon isn’t working anymore what do I do now?! Transition to secondary while laying down suppressive fire and move quickly to cover. Hit on target are good but the whole idea is to keep your opponent’s head down while you move to cover so you can address the issue with your primary weapon. Accuracy with the pistol is not the main concern. Keeping bullets flying in the direction of your opponent is.

Having not been in a gunfight, but as a discussion point: Shooter A hit the target Shooter B didn’t, but shot fast. I’ll take shooter B as the person I gunfight against, please. I wondered if shooting but missing and walking slow was better than running out of ammo and then dead sprinting to cover at easily 5 times the speed be was walking. Depending on how much the adversary respects the cover fire, he could just drill you while you walk to cover compared to dead sprinting to cover, significantly less window of time to get hit and much harder target to hit as well.
@TacticalHyve3 жыл бұрын
You're taking that part too literally. He wasn't aiming at the target and didn't even think about hitting the target. it was to demonstrate the rate of fire.

As I’ve heard it said, you can never miss fast enough to win a gun fight. It’s situational, but outside the military its application is pretty limited.
@bobchester15683 жыл бұрын
@@austinrothjr, as an attendee of this class I can say this particular technique has limited use in the civilian world. If you’re ever involved in a gun fight where you have a carbine and a pistol then shit has definitely gone sideways. That said there are applications for this. High value target security such as nuclear security definitely use suppressive fire in order to defend their position. Same goes for executive security. The last scenario that comes to mind is a SHTF kind of thing. Economic collapse or a political split of the nation where Rule of Law breaks down. The more arrows in your quiver the better.
