plate may have stopped the bullet, but that impact is still going to knock the outlaw off his horse.

The hydrostatic effect of blunt force shock like that could turn your insides to jelly and massive hemorrhage. It would be interesting to hear what a doctor would say about it.

@@laurence1643 the amount of deformation on the back of the plate, even after just the 1st round would have caused a shattered sternum and cracked or broken ribs, with possible lung puncture. You'd be alive, but in so much pain you're out of the fight.

It depends on the firearm/bullet. I am sure that the level three plate works well against handguns to an extent. Rifles are a different story

It would stop your heart. No its not gonna turn your insides into jelly. You'll have broken bones and bruising with a heart stoppage though

That much blunt force trauma to mid-sternum would could still be fatal.

From the looks of the low recoil those lightweight 45-70 loads weren’t being pushed beyond black powder pressures. I would like to see some heavy 45-70 loads tested too.

Dorr clearly mentioned like 3 times in the video that even if the plate stopped the bullet, anyone shot by these rounds is staying down. Why da fuq to people in the comments keep bringing it up like the video didn't address it?

We have been using the lever 45/70 for years as bear back up. Been building them, more then this build for 2 plus years now. The build isn't difficult. Lack of vocabulary shows this is new to them. Thanks for the video.

I fired a 4570 325g expanding head in the field. It emptied out the target and left an exit wound I could pass my fist clean through. I didn’t even know they made 250g rounds. A great guide gun.

Great video Dorr. I think one thing you mentioned which is skipped in most tests of body armor is the impact/energy transferred to the body. Maybe you guys can give us an idea based on what you have seen/experienced. I think there is a misconception out here, especially with soft armor/IIIA/pistol, that you can take a round(s) and quickly shrug it off and keep moving/fighting. I mean if I were to take one round of .357 or .44 mag in soft armor and it breaks a rib or two, I'm not going anywhere. Thanks, David E.

Are there any downsides to ccw safe? Like Uscca being secretive about what case they will cover, or hidden things we may have to pay for? Does ccw safe really cover everything in a firearm altercation?

The amount of deformation on the inside after the first round would have cracked the sternum possible in multiple places, caused costochondreal separation of the ribs from the sternum, and fractures on those ribs as they separate from the sternum. The resulting compression would knock the breath out of the victim in a brutal way, and cause severe internal damage to the lungs, possibly internal bleeding. Even if the victim survives the 1st shot and impact, it will take a long time before he can catch his breath again and may pass out from lack of oxygen. I don't think someone would be able to survive that impact.

It's all about bullet integrity. It's an expanding (light for caliber) hunting bullet not really designed for penetration. It would also appear from the lack of recoil it's also loaded to standard pressure (or there about) and not really indicative of what the 45/70 is capable of.

I got a question you’re showing your shots so close of course you’re going to get penetration and knockdown but why not show your shots at 100 yards, 30 and500 yards like they’re supposed to be to see what the effect would be

Leaning a plate isn't a realistic test. Without it solidly supported by something to simulate the mass of the human torso gives you no indication of what the plate is capable of.

Not a super velocity heavy round, we all hear it. But for giggles if a 500 didn't penetrate? That plate would be punching your sternum against your spine! But we all know that it would probably thread the material through you

"Not known for its penetration" LOL maybe 20 years ago with loads safe for all guns. A modern lever gun in 45-70 with loads designed for them that is a test to see. I don't care what loads from 100 years ago will do to modern armor. Try some modern loads designed for a modern lever gun to stop brown bear and other deadly game say from manufacturers like Garrett Cartridges, Buffalo Bore et al. Also put some poster board on all 4 sides and show how much spalling exits the coating a sliver or two of jacket or part of that plate to a carotid artery will take you out even if the plate "stops" the projectile.
