Spot on for sure. Learned that quickly in jungle warfare in the 60's. If we were taking fire and just stood there trying to see the enemy chances are we would be hit .

With my family, my objective is to get out of dodge. we're running for cover and then the exit. If the public attack has turned directly on me, then of course i have to change the dynamics and reciprocate directly with my gun. But I'd say finding cover and bugging out is my main concern. Whether i reassess the situation at my car is TBD.

A really good piece of evidence for adapting to the situation is the video from a walmart incident. The defender saw an active threat and locked on him, followed him, and drew his piece. The defender didn’t know that the armed threat had an accomplice trailing behind him. The accomplice saw the defender drawing on the first threat and ended the defender. He never saw her. You always need the most amount of information in an actively unfolding tactical situation. If you’re not paying attention to your surroundings you may never have the chance to do anything.

I think it's also worth noting that in the general sense, there is no right specific answer. The right answer is to make it home alive with your loved ones unscathed. So whatever the means, but that is the goal. I guess the first thing to ask is if one can draw without slowing down as they reposition away from fire or that they do not draw attention. If you're getting shot at and drawing will slow you down to the point of increasing risk of getting hit, then it may be a wiser move to just break contact and find cover before engaging. If you are protecting others and need to divert attention of the attacker, then drawing and shooting from initial point of contact may be more viable. Numerous variables and instances where one can be more beneficial than the other.

A coworker of mine had a bad guy jump out his car with a firearm. Colleague ran to get cover behind a wall. Bad guy arrested. During interview, bad guy said he never thought his target would have ran. He thought he would stand fast and engage. Being behind the curve would have resulted in his death and bad guy could get away.

Good thought food! You summed it up nicely; 'It depends...' and training with practice gives us more options if that Bad Time ever comes. On the 'heel and toe' thing, I was shown this in a class taught by a SPECOPS Marine, and the point was smoothness to keep the sight on target; when I was trying to sight and walk, the sight was bouncing like a rubber ball and shots were all over the place! AS A PRIVATE CITIZEN, I cannot afford misses! Also as a private citizen, the times I can legally go hunting Bad Guys are extremely limited; I am expected to stay defensive and exit the threat area as quickly and safely as I can.

My interpretation: first be prepared to shoot back as you are. Second while shooting, move toward any thing larger than you, however fuzzy (thinking tunnel vision). Third, shoot until the threat is neutralized

It has been my experience that in a hostile situation, immediate action (preferably aggressive action) is preferable to seeking cover. Maybe I have just been lucky that my situations have occurred at close range and aggressors have been surprised and hesitated when met with immediate force/violence. But, law enforcement is different than combat, most criminals don't want to die whereas active shooters probably do. Inaction or hesitation is always the worst response. Fight, seek cover, do both, but do something/anything instantly. IMHO.

Shooting on the move requires you to have first identified the source of the incoming fire. Not always easy in a crowded public setting. Get off the X.

As conscript i was told to immediately return fire while either dropping to knee to make yourself slightly smaller target or while sprinting to cover. After first shots the rest depends on the situation. That was military context though. I would assume that in civilian context it would differ according to the situation wether you have weapon on hand and if you can see the hostile and if there are other people around etc.. Suppressive fire might be bad idea if there are crouds of civilians all around. Civilians are not allowed to carry guns around where I'm from so most likely my first reaction would be to take cover and assess the situation.

As soon as you take contact you are in the fight right away so the way you train is you fight to cover not cover then get into the fight
@SaundersE5 Жыл бұрын
Universal answer, it depends. Shoot and scoot, seek cover, attempt to get fire superiority then call in Specter.

I loved your presentation. I'm surprised that CA even allows training such as yours. My thinking is that in most civilian cases in this country, you will hear shots but not immediately know the source. My typical action would be to hit the deck (the WTF position), maybe that will be behind cover, locate the threat(s), put rounds on if I have range, or remain behind cover until the threat(s) move into my range or an opportunity opens to egress.

I live in/right next to that city. They are actually not gun friendly per se but not against it and pretty pro military. Its just north of san diego. So its a military area. And the downtown main street of escondido has war hero’s from the city on banners lining the streets

This is really some advice that concealed carriers as well as armed professions on shift ought to be paying attention to and thinking through. Goes back to all those fundamentals but only two are really the most critical in scoring hits - front sight, but most importantly trigger press. Practicing situational awareness everywhere, including that proverbial parking lot is going to help you decide what your move is going to be - as well as your skill level to apply the fundamentals under stress. Again, this is great instruction!

I think of shooting on the move like a quarterback throwing a pass on the move out of the pocket. You have to compensate for your movement and the target movement. It will never be consistent, but you will just get a feel for it. What are your feet doing? I'm not even thinking about it. You just do it. Great Video!!!
@TheLoneRanger745 Жыл бұрын
Dutch is right on the money, training is more important, than having a firearm on you. Having a gun increases the likelihood you will be involved. Shooting on the move is the most important skill you can learn , it increases your survival rate by making you harder to hit and your effectiveness to stop the shooter, the closer you get the more accurate you'll be. Know what is around and behind your target for plus hundreds of yards before you miss your mark, you better be damn sure you're saving lives before you take that shot in the city full of people, a thousand yards away sitting at a traffic light is where your bullet will stop. There's a Lawyer attached to every bullet . Good people go to jail trying to do the right thing same as the criminals. God forbid you miss the bad guy and hit an innocent person.
