Also cuz South America is finally starting to adapt to the European game when it comes to player development. Felt like in the last 10-15 years, a lot of South Americans were not compatible to the “total football” approach of the Europeans cuz their defensive players like ball playing ability and the attackers lacked the high-pressing. In the last 5 years, it has started to change and more South Americans are able to play in Europe, and even the South American leagues are higher in quality. At least with Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay we are starting to see that change.

No Darío osorio mention is kinda sad, it may be bias from me being chilean, but the dude is genuinely the future of chile, being the second player ever in chile's history to be nominated to the golden boy award since alexis sanchez, and in denmark he deffo got a jump in quality, its a shame he didnt get the minutes he deserves in the wc qualifiers but since gareca came to chile osorio is starting to finally show off, scoring a banger against france on a 3-2 friendly, i genuinely think he might be one of the most underated players coming in this copa america

My take with Garnacho is that he will be used as a super sub for Argentina in the knock out games. He’s proven for 2 years now that regardless if he starts or is subbed in, he will rattle world class defenses on his day. He did it last year against Manchester City in that year’s FA Cup final as a super sub almost scoring an equalizer (it was off by a few inches) and scoring/winning this year’s FA Cup final (plus a few moments in other important games such as the quarter finals against Liverpool and that was him out of form). Imma say it now, do not be shocked if he scores an important last minute goal in either the semi or final of the Copa America.

What about 18-year-old Costa Rica Andy Rojas? He’s only 18 and plays domestically in Costa Rica and he’s already getting offers to leave. They are going to pay his Costa Rican club over $4.5 million from Italy, Belgium, MLS, and the Netherlands. He wants to go to Europe, but his club is trying to hang onto him a little bit longer to drive the price tag up even more if he keeps tearing up Liga FPD.

Unfortunately neither Soule or Echeverri were included at this Copa America. It’s not really a surprisingly decision but disappointing nonetheless. I have a sense every team at the Copa except Brazil and Canada will deploy a low-block against Argentina, and that is when you need attackers with brilliant close-range dribbling to pull defenders out of position. I don’t see how Garnacho or Nico Gonzalez will be effective cuz their speed is going to be nullified.

I don't know if I'd say Reyna has had poor club form over the last 12 months. My argument is that when he has played, he's general looked crisp and deserving of minutes. He hasn't lit up the stat sheet, but that has a lot to do with the game situations when he's played. Usually as a very late substitution, where the tone of the game isn't very representative of what would be expected during other phases of play that might provide him more effective opportunities. So, I guess the main criticism of his club play has been a simple lack of it. Not necessarily how he's played with the time given to him. I have a theory about the disconnect between what he seems to show on the field, versus the opportunities he's given. I think Gio is one of those players who doesn't shine in training, and I'm not going to immediately chalk that up to laziness. Anyone who has played at a competitive level knows there are guys like that on every team. Guys that for one reason or another perform much better in real games versus during practices (could be anything from attempts to avoid injury, to certain competitive fire showing more versus opponents as opposed to teammates, to practice scenarios not doing a good job of recreating in-game situations). There are also guys who are the opposite. How many of us have had teammates that constantly talk about how they scored "X" number of goals in short-sided scrimmages at training while they complain about not getting a chance to start or receive more minutes in games? I know I had plenty of teammates on both sides of that coin. My best bet is Gio is one of the former, who maybe looks a step off during training but will produce for you in games when given a real chance. What he needs most isn't just a team with a system that favors his style of play, but also a coach who understands that profile of player.

Ok, I know you have to include a US player, let's be honest, this is a USMNT centric channel. But Gio can't continue to live off of "potential" for the rest of his career. Yes the kid has potential, but why does he keep getting put on the bench? Not just at Dortmund but also at Forest. And why does "controversy" keep following him? At what point do we have to put some blame on the player and not what happens around him. Whether it's excuses like injuries, which may not be his fault, or may be, because he might not be taking care of his body properly. Or managers, he has to be accountable, and we have been waiting for him to "breakout" since he went to Europe. Right now, the only consistent thing about Gio is his inconsistent play. Sometimes he shows world class talent, and sometimes he disappears. To me he's becoming a player that a manager would get fired for because he thinks he can bring out that consistency but end up being the same inconsistent player nonetheless. Even though he's still young, I see other players ahead of him to watch, Duran, Asprilla, and even Tillman has surpassed him as a young player to watch for the USMNT. Many people are putting all their eggs in the Reyna basquet, thinking he's been unlucky or outside forces have stalled his growth. And at the end of the day I'm a USMNT fan and I hope he reaches his potential, but we have seen this movie before, not all players reach their potential, not because of being unlucky or outside forces, but because they don't have it in them.
