If April 1, 2024 was the hundredth anniversary of the Canadian Air Force, why didn’t I hear about a major celebration? I am a proud Canadian and I have a great deal of respect and admiration for our military and its history!

Mainly because while the RCAF was organized in 1924, its considered a direct continuation of the Royal Flying Corps (Canada) which has its establishment in 1917 and the centennial celebrations were done back in 2017

@@dax9431 Generally speaking, a lack of military funding over the last 60 years has occurred under Liberal federal governments. Some of us remember the stripping down of our military through Defence Minister Paul Hellyer's unification of army/navy, air force. Lester B. Pearson was a sheep who thought that his peace-keeping intellect made it unnecessary to keep our military strong. The last Liberal Prime Minister to advocate for a strong military was Louis St. Laurent -- arguably Canada's best PM.

@@r.crompton2286 Curious what your opinion of Diefenbaker is
@r.crompton2286
@r.crompton2286 3 ай бұрын
@@turbopropsandtailpipes7654 In '57 Dief was perceived to be a "fresh breath of air" and through his dynamic speaking ability, he conveyed more charisma than St. Laurent who was a very capable PM, but quiet and reserved. Dief was a great lawyer, an honest Christian and politically savvy. JFK didn't like him because he appeared too nationalistic and conservative. Dief was widely blamed for the demise of the Avro Arrow project but in truth, he had no choice -- the Americans had effectively blocked its sale to NATO countries through economic threats. Diefenbaker was give a " no choice" decision. Without confirmed orders for the CF 105 all-weather, supersonic interceptor, the programme could not continue. It was not economically sound to build 35 Arrows solely for domestic use on the D.E.W. Line. In '61 Dief angered the nation by allowing the Canadian dollar to "plummet" to $.92 against the US greenback, as a means to counter the recession that occurred that year. Formerly, the Canadian dollar was either at par or 5 cents higher in value and to see it drop significantly was more than most Canadians were prepared to accept. We might now laugh at this but it proved to be the start of his downfall. Not the best PM we ever had but ranking quite high against several dodos we've elected before and since.

Thank you for the video. I thought there were more than 7 F 18s were going to be used for operational use from the 18 purchased from Australian Air Force. The 2 A330/CC330 MRTT in operations are ex KU A330-200 aircraft. 2 more will be ex-KU aircraft as well. There will be 5 new A330 MRTT delivered from Airbus Military.

@@alpearson9158 When I tried to read up on this purchase, it was so confusing. There are so many spare parts. I thought they would have at least 12 of the flyable F/A 18As and Bs I strongly believe that, we should have also purchased another 6~8 Squadrons of Saab JAS 39 Gripens on top our F35A purchases. I do know it will be so challenging to introduce two new Fighter types. But the Gripens would be easier to deploy for the North while the F35s could be deployed from the more southern air bases. With Sweden in NATO now, it will also allow Canadian Air Force to have more joint arctic operations with other NATO operators Just my $0.02

I'm sorry! But who the "F" makes these videos? Do you not know that all of our forces Army/Navy/Air Force are currently running below 50%? We have nothing to be proud of! We should be ashamed by our government for not providing the most basic of funds. True, True, True! We need to show our respect for the members that currently serve, but hold the government to task! So please stop posting videos of our armed forces like we are "cutting edge" or that we can respond to a world or domestic event! We can't! And that is the fault of our Federal Government, not the members of the Canadian Armed Forces!

Canada should keep its fleet of F-18A/Bs going as the F-35Bs roll in. The F-35 can only go Mach 1.1 where the F-18s go Mach 1.8 with a range of 3400m. We need fast jets like the F-18 to intercept as the F-35s arrive. Need carriers for them as Canada is building Destroyers, well Frigates. Subs, we need more ships first. Helicopters, finally in 2022 we got attack helicopters.

These fighter jets are your grandfathers. That is to say, some of you Canadians have grandfathers who flew the cf-118s. And they are Canaduhs best, most technologically advanced aircraft. Oh, they also have second hand subs the same age, and some overpriced Dutch made warships coming soon to a tim hortons franchise near you... I joke, but Canaduh is more logistics than warrior.

When they ordered 15 000 Transport trucks a decade or so back I scratched my head for a while, and then realized, we move things around for other Players, We're the Cooks and Maintenance Personnel in the grand scheme of things, and we historically according to our adversaries put up a good fight with what we have when it comes to that. We have not been on the losing side of a War yet.
