@yumyumtunafish4 жыл бұрын
The best thing about this world cup was Totti finally winning on the world stage. The English media love to underrate him for some reason. However in reality Marcello Lippi was clever enough to find a way to play him and Pirlo in the same team. Whilst England struggled to find a way to play Gerrard and Lampard in the same team for about 10 years or so.

I have the same opinion about the 2002 brazilian team. Actually it was a defensive team, but because of the individual talents we tend to forget about it very easily. Brazil will never have a team like this... But basically nearly every nation had very good team in the early 2000's and there were more individial talents for whom it was worth sitting in front of the TV. After everything changed...

Hey guys, The channel is great, but you`re making a lot of mistakes in Brazil tactics lately. In 94 what you call a 4222 is a simplification, was more like a 4132. Mauro Silva staid stuck in front of defense to release the wingbacks, while Dunga (who everyone see as a destroyer) was more free to do direct passes. Zinho and Mazinho were supporting at max, their role was to deliver the ball to the 2 strikers and provide defensive shape that allow more freedom to Romario and Bebeto. Check Dunga almost playing as a regista here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y4PMnXZuf9GfjdU Now in 2002, the formation also is wrong, Scollari played a 3421. Marcos Lucio - Edmilson - Roque Jr Gilberto Silva Cafu - Kleberson/J. Paulista - R. Carlos Ronaldinho - Rivaldo Ronaldo Gilberto Silva stayed as an anchor in front of defense, and depending of stronger adversaries the team altered Kleberson for J. Paulista, Kleberson being defensive stronger and Juninho arriving late at the box. Injured Ronaldo in the beginning of the tournament was barely a poacher with no confidence, he gain confidence during the cup. In the beginning he wasn’t even taking penalty kicks but by the round of 16 he was toe-poking against Belgium. Rivaldo was playing a classic number 10 and Brazil own that cup to him, best player of the tournament in my opinion. Well, that was long, keep up with the good work.
@aza46457 жыл бұрын
Edit: by the semi final he was toe-poking against Turkey.

Still, on hindsight, their draw completely destroyed Italy's chances of retaining the trophy. With a win against NZL Italy would have progressed to the last 16 even with a 2-3 loss against Slovakia.

Italy had great players from 1990-2006'ish. They were close in both WC98 and Euro 2000 against France. WC 2002 was a fight against the refs (for them and other countries). It's taken almost 12+ yrs but we're finally seeing some promising players again. Mancini seems to be doing a pretty good job.. hopefully it continues. Brazil has always succeeded with disclipined defence and an organised midfield. People forget the 70 team with Pele even though was very mobile and fluid they were fit and organised. The middle was tight and Tostao was disciplined in the lines. No team can fully succeed with a star who doesnt get dirty.

Brazil for me played with the formation which best suited it blend of players when you have cafu and roberto carlos as your fullbacks it seems obvious to use them to provide the width. In addition brazil defence was in transition the likes of Aldair the stand out centre back retired 2 years earlier for me the extra centre back and the 2 holding midfield players made up for a less talented defence. the likes of england portugal spain italy france played with a back 4 italy in particular is worth mentioning as their are more than capable with that group of players to play a back 3. Remember germany played usa korea and paraquay on the way to the final it wasn't the case of a back 3 formation out performing the rest of the tactical setups more that germany had a more talented group of players who were capable at progressing well into the later stages of international tournaments. In fact it wasn't something brazil stuck to either they played a back 4 against Belgium costa rica and china . I would question if was a fad at all when you have a select group of teams using this tactical setup in most of their games.
@MrGts927 жыл бұрын
it's strange to think that France made it to that final against Italy. No one felt that they had a chance. Even though I cannot remember the feelings during the tournament, can't help but think that there was distinct lack of attacking excitement, whether that's individually or as a unit. Those mid 2000s in general for me wasn't that great to watch Internationally.

The Brazil 2006 team was the most hyped team before any WC I can remember. Everybody talked as if they didn't even need to play, they had already won it before the WC started. Cafu, R Carlos, G Silva, Kaka totally dominating at Milan, Ronaldinho at the very height of his career, Ronaldo still being very respectable and Robinho at the time when everybody thought he would be what Messi has been for the last 10 years. That team was filled to the brim with legends. If anything, Brazil losing to France in 2006 was seen as a bigger shock than their 7-1 loss to Germany in 2014.
