great topic! That bluelab meter looks sick 🤩 it looks much harder to break than the ceramic tipped ones. i suck at gauging when to water, so over the last year ive been trying a bunch of DIY Sub Irrigated Planters. Ive been pretty happy so far :)

2 gallon And lower. I use my kitchen scale. To weigh my media Dry. I Take that note pin it o the wall. Then after watering like say 5% of the volume Worth In Water . Check The weight again. Write it down. Then check same Time the NEXT Day. It gives me a baseline if what the media is going to through. This works for me and saves me alot of Money I don't have. 3-5 I pick up the pot. Untill under scrog then it does come a guessing game. For a while. Eco wit is a great affordable option. Even if it's not 100% right. It gives you a number to Go Off of. Eco wit like 40.00 each plus extra for the hub Still Way cheaper than blumat.

for moisture meters, I'm going to try these: ECOWITT WH51 Soil Moisture Sensor
@kisorganics2 ай бұрын
I have not tried those yet. Thanks for sharing!

I bought all the same moisture sensors last season aside from the last super fancy one. Irrometer was the best one I tested for the home growers price point.

Good to know, that makes sense based on what I've seen. I am looking forward to getting mine going. Let me know if you have any pointers.

I was surprised how well the cheapest one measured moisture, the readings almost perfectly lined up with the ideal range on the irrometer. The durability however was lacking in the cheapie one, only lasted one season and the probes oxidized/ rusted. For the irrometer I am getting the little vacuum pump this season as bubbles are constant issues with it. If you are resetting it a lot it's probably fine but I like to leave mine in the pot for ease of reading. If you have the vacuum it's a lot easier to clear the air bubbles while it's in the soil, otherwise you have to reset. I'd also purchase a few extra irrometer caps as the blue plug has a tendency to break down in rich soilless media.

I’ve been getting about a 15-20 mil bar difference between the Blumat and the irrometer. Blumat seems to read a lower number. Has anyone else compared readings?
@kisorganics2 ай бұрын
I hope to do so soon. I think you can just create a range for your soil that fits for the media you're in and the moisture level you're targeting.

Can't recommend Blue lab/ had bad PH pen & worst customer service!
@kisorganics2 ай бұрын
That's too bad. I know I had a struggle getting setup with them to distribute the Pulse meter. I am happy with the quality of the meter so far. One thing I will say is that if someone buys a Bluelab product from us, then we will handle the customer service side of things on our end so the customer doesn't have to deal with it.
