I don't think Tadej wanted the Yellow Jersey yet, the way he eased off in the run to the line pulling up to be last of that bunch to cross implies he wanted no time gaps but didn't want the jersey.

Thats quite the stretch... It wasn't even a test, Pogi just getting some exercise and Vinegar didn't even want to pull to keep Remmy out of the time slot. Vinegar was nervous and then you see his slight smile when he started getting more comfortable. Pogi probably wishing he had waited and not jumped as now he has to entertain the clown show in regard to the yellow jersey commitments.

Spot on. This stage was tailor made for Pogi in week 1 but he couldn't make it happen. The interview after the race says it all. Pogi was very disappointed cos he knows all to well that in week three Jonas will be a beast. A huge setback for UAE.

Thank you Eurosport for sharing this portion of the Breakaway on KZbin. I subscribed to GCN+ in May 2021 and thoroughly enjoyed the Eurosport/GCN+ race coverage before WB folded GCN+. I have subscribed to various cycling broadcast platforms since the mid-1990s. My GCN+ Eurosport feed exceeded all of my expectations for cycling coverage and commentary. My Tour de France coverage is now provided by Peacock. To my great disappointment, but not to my surprise, it is worse than the NBC Sports Gold coverage I left in 2021. It is flat-out depressing. I turn to the Eurosport Highlights after viewing the end of live racing on Peacock as a balm to sooth the sting of the return to sub-par cycling coverage. I hope that NBC/Peacock wants to excel at what they do but it seems like they really don't care about cycling. Whereas you do! So keep up the great work!

The tour is still a child !!! Come on, only 2 stages ,no ITT ,no mountain stage ,nobody can say that's done or not done ,just for some riders who came to fight for a top 5 or top 10 ,for a few of them couldn't be possible to get that top ten. The favorite riders to the GC still have all the chances to achieve their main goals !!!

Stage 1 was the hardest hilliest I think I’ve ever seen. It is way too early to predict anything. Stage 4 will be a chance for someone to hammer down and create separation.

Never looked like Pogi went 100% and he didn't even try to sprint at the end so I am sure we will see the fall for Jonas come later but regardless of that, for everything he just went through in the last 3 months, congrats to him to be back in this form.

Keep in mind that Pog gave up some of his explosivity this year for threshold mountain speed… you can see it clearly from his less agressive attacks. Galibier will be more of an indicator. Explosivity can be built back fast but stamina and longevity can be built by chronic training load. And that is what Jonas is missing because he did not have time… no concern for now for Pog. Let’s wait and see ;)

Pogacar looked unhappy at the finish. Vingegaard probably wasn't as hurt as they claimed he was and Pogi realized it today. If I have to watch a 3rd consecutive tour of Pogi doing 100% of the attacking and Jonas just hanging on everywhere til Pogi makes a mistake I'm done watching a Jonas race. He's great, probably UNBELIEVABLY great, but I can't stand these boring specialists who aren't aggressive at all. Hoping Pogi or even Evenepoel can stop him this year. Doesnt look likely after today. I doubt he had all those injuries or he's just doped to the gills, neither makes this very believable.

If history repeats itself, Pog is in trouble. Jonas usually gets stronger as grand tours go on and in the most difficult mountain stages like he did in last years Vuelta. Despite the injuries, he should have fresh legs. The win in the Giro against really extremely weak competition may have given UAE a false sense of dominance.
