Much respect to Grandmaster Park Jong Soo! Being a student of Grandmaster Low Koon Lin (and his grandnephew too!), I really really appreciate the work that the Grandmasters have put in. And thanks for putting this video up too! Very inspirational!

ITF was founded in 1966. The Korean art of self defense was first named after Taekwon-Do in 1955.

Your right i study Traditional ITF Taekwon-Do and it looks almost exactly like Old school Shotokan Karate. Th eversion that we do is before Gen. Choi added the sign wave thing

@jiggahippo shotokan was the basis of TKD end of story. simple as that and some taekkyon blends...then adopt them to korean people and mentality but keeping the karate core... this is how TKD was made.

That is debatable. Gen. Choi claims he did, but Duk Sung Son claims he originated the name but Choi took credit for it. I guess we'll never know. I do know this: Choi was notorious for taking credit for the work of others. I respect those who deserve respect. Those in the ITF get into a tizzy whenever it is brought up that Choi was perhaps not as honorable as they like to think.

I can understand positive criticism with valid evidence to support an argument... but I think its funy how easy it is for people to slate styles and practitioners... What about yourself.. How hard do you work to make your art or inner being the best it can be... Once you're perfect then maybe say something...

How can you tell the difference between WTF TKD, and ITF TKD?

Chun Fa kung fu was another component of TKD and then Chang Moo Kwan TKD became predominant until the Kukiwon elected WTF as the "modern " TKD, the olympic TKD and a much softer martial art that unfortunately became the standart. Choi reacted and created ITF, a martial TKD.

i think it meant something as a accomplishment if you got your black belt several decades ago

Other than adding the inefficient Sinewave and promoting Tae Kwon Do with black belts he took from Chung Do Kwan, Choi added nothing to Tae Kwon Do. He may have been an idea man, but he certainly was not a teacher.

I also for the life of me cannot understand why people think that primitive Taekwondo and ITF style Taekwondo (which are different) are amazing or even look good. The way they move inf orms looks like shit. Compare it to any Japanese Karate master of the time and you can see how the Japanese had clean, efficient, balanced motions. Lots of finesse. The early TKD styles looked almost garbage like in moving. They only look good doing flying kicks and spin kicks etc. But their forms look so stupid. The way Choi added sine wave made it look even more dumb. There is nothing efficient about the way the guy was doing Won Hyo tul in this video. It looked dumb. Retarded weird off beat movements and stances that are too long. Kukkiwon did a good job standardizing Taekwondo poomsae and making them efficient and look clean.

@jiggahippo kinda makes sense looking for someone stupid, trying to prove you are not alone

The main way to tell is to look for the way the technique is executed. All of the techniques should be the same- maybe with different names- but the execution should be different. WTF TKD should look alot like traditional Karate, whereas ITF TKD has this crazy thing called the "Sine Wave" or the "Knee Spring". Basically, there's a sort of bouncy flow to it. It's hard to describe. I call it crazy cuz I'm a 1st Dan in ITF TKD. =P
